Nobody worships statues. They are only reminders of the people they represent. Don't you carry photos of your loved ones in your wallet? It's the same thing.

Well, I guess it depends on what church you go to. Some only have an empty cross. If I went into a church with statues of Mary and Jesus, yes I would feel I was worshiping those statues just for the fact that there are so many in the church.

I'm quite confuse to read some of the answers given above. Some says the statues are meant to help people to worship God. This is illogical since the question is about Jesus and Mary statues. Jesus and Mary are not God.
Jesus was sent to earth to save mankind from ashtray. Mary is a virgin mother selected by God to give borth to God's Messenger, Jesus. The fact that people equate Jesus to Son of God is only an interprepretation of those people who does not have 100% knowledge of Jesus teachings and merely following the holy books which was translated and re-translated into Latin from it original Hebrew.

Some people need these images to help them in prayer but i think like you do that if you are thinking of these statues that you are using them as worship tools. Eventually every time you pray these images are coming into your mind and this, however harmless too begin with, turns into idol worship. When thinking of God your mind should be image free. No one knows what God looks like and no images or idols or crosses should be used too represent him or Jesus.

I refused to attend the Catholic church anymore at the age of 14. I agree with you. ALso add this to your list: somewhere in the new testament I read GOD said "let no man call himself Father because I am the only one." SO what do priests call themselves? ALso someone asked how to pray and the answer was do not use rituals. I always considered the mass a ritual. I agree with your statue theory. ALso why would people even want to pray to any saint? If you need help pray to God the Father not even Jesus. Go right to the top!!!!!!!!!!!

The cross or other dipictions are only to help men try and relate to God; but we can have and show images and stuff of what we think, but were not supose to bow down or worship any of these idols or images. The true nature of God is a spirit not flesh and bone; He sent Jesus down here in the form of man to show us that it is possible (although 99.9% unlikely) to live a sin free life.

Okay okay Ive seen some of your questions and please stop trying to harass Christians about their faith. Faith is a belief in something. Nobody can 100% prove beliefs of their faith. If you have a problem with Christianity get over it. If your a Muslim good for you just stop harassing us Christians about Jesus and our faith.
