When using sympathetic magic to affect a person, personal items are used such as hair, finger and toenails. Sympathetic magic is used in witchcraft and alot in Hoodoo.

I practice Haitian based Vodou. We do not use nails of any kind in practice. Nor do we throw curses or use voodoo dolls. So NO they are not used.

I'm not sure on that one, but hair can be used.
