Companies that make high quality screens (such as Stewart Filmscreen) keep their materials secret. They are made of a plastic material such as vinyl, but have special finishes and coloring. Screens have "gain" which specifies the brightness of the reflection compared to a perfectly diffuse reflector. You can make a screen with close to unity gain with a flat white or grayish-white paint on a hard. very flat, very smooth surface. It is much harder to do on a flexible surface, and is not recommended.
