I need to replace my single pane windows before winter in my entire house (18- 20 windows, plus 3 sliding doors). Is Home Depot a good contractor for windows and installation?

First, decide what brand and type of window you want installed. This way all the offers are based on the same material. Call several companies, including contractors, and get bids on doing the job. Be sure to get a timeframe for completion - you don't want to have a half-finished job in winter. Select the best three or so bidders and contact the local Better Business Bureau for references. Also be sure that the bidders are licensed and insured to do the work. Contractors should have a state or local license. Then you have to decide - usually by reference or conversation - which one you like the best. Get a written contract that describes exactly what is to be replaced, with what, and the timeframe involved. Good luck.

The company I work for is a well established licensed contractor in north Florida. We have dealt with HD. We no longer deal with them. The last I knew, they had a national firm that handled every thing after the sale, including the measures. This never played well with OUR installs. Their "measurers" are instructed to measure one way and one way only. Not taking into account that for the most part all homes should be measured on a case by case basis. Inevitably, most of their windows were small to our standards. Which ment we always had to add wood to the RO to meet local codes. You can always find reputable contractors that also sell the product they install. With a little investigation you`ll find it is possible th eliminate the middle man, and still insure a quality install. Check with your BBB

ill tell you what i did. bought the windows from the lowest price place i could find. saved a bundle... get your permits if you need them or the city might have a problem with you... go in and tell them that your doing the work yourself. the cost is lower that way. find yourself a handyman that you get as a referance and check there work and see if the people at the other jobs they did were good. find some one you can trust.. the job is an easy one if they know what they are doing .. get everything in writing and dont pay them untill the job is done. go buy the materals for them. it will keep your cost down and you get great windows out of the deal. i saved so much money that way. a friend of the family is the best way to go. ask around ... neighbors too

Call all three. Gets bids from each and go with the one you feel most comfortable with. It may not be the lowest bid. I know I have gone with the middle or highest bid before. It depends on the way the person or company comes across to you. The old saying goes, "You get what you pay for" Good Luck!!!!
