Sometimes dogs have bad memories, meaning, if the dog had ever been beat or hurt when they sleep they dream of that.
But sometimes, like us humans they have bad dreams. Sometimes I wish I could see what they were dreaming. My dog barks, and growls and rolls in her sleep at times. And she grunts alot! lol. I think that if he is barking and growling mabey you should leave him be, but if he starts whimpering cuddle up to him and let him know you are there. Thats what I do.
Hope this helped,
Jessica

If it's growling and barking in it's sleep, you may startle him by going up to pet him in his sleep and in affect, he may bite. I'd say if you catch him having bad dreams, wait until he stops reacting, then comfort him. Other than that, dreams and nightmares are common for people and animals, so there's not much else you can do except love your pet!

Nothing...he is just in deep sleep, which is good for him. Dogs need about 16 hours of sleep a day.
Usually this type of sleep is seen most in puppies, but older dogs can do it to.
It is the same thing if a person where to talk in their sleep.
Hope this helps

That doggie should go to the vet. It is possible that he is in pain. If not, the vet can prescribe something to help him get a good night's sleep.
Dogs dream and use them in the same way that people do--to process events that have taken place. This doggie appears to have a lot of sleep disburbances.

Not so much as nightmares they are dreams and that is a healthy sign of the dog being happy and content. My dog does it all the time and she is a lovable fat meatball.

They got nightmares for the same reason that causes yours. Dogs are sleeping in almost the same way as we humans do. Johan.

Maybe the dog is being abused in some way?? Whether it's from the past or happening in the present, I really don't know the answer to that one.

Dogs dream, just like people do, though with slightly different content. Sounds like this is what he's doing, in which case there's no need to do anything. It's perfectly normal.
