No, not at all in my opinion...
The act of "Marriage" is the commitment to each other itself. It does not and should not matter what one wears to "prove" this commitment.
In all honesty, I personally see a Marriage certificate as just a piece of paper, as does my long term (10 years plus) girlfriend.
We have talked about getting married, but to us, it's just a fun thing to do, rather than a "must do".
Even though our parents and friends will pressurize us into doing everything in a "traditional" way, we both like the idea of doing something like going to Las Vegas and getting married with me dressed as a Rockabilly, and her dressed in Bobby-socks, and an Elvis impersonator doing the actual marrying! ;-)
Remember, at the end of the day, it is YOUR day... and no one else's... If you want to get married in a Scarlet Red dress, or all black (both very nice ideas, IMHO) then do it.
We also like the idea of getting married dressed in full Star Trek regalia, over at the Star Trek: Experience (http://www.startrekexp.com/index.php?p=what&sloc=weddings) but that's just me being a sad trekkie... ;-)
Go with your heart... and your instinct. You'll never be wrong.
HTH
Regards

Brides get married in all kinds of colors, different cultures, different colors. I think a bride should get married in the color she wants to.

No! The old traditional stuff probably has to do with some superstition. It is the couples day and they should be able to have things arranged how they want it. Your feelings should be respected but, the parents feelings should be considered also. But remember it is the people that are getting married special day!!!!

I don't think so. The colour of the dress depends on the bride and what she wants to wear. Many designers today cater to those who wish to wear a more colourful gown. I think it's perfectly acceptable if it makes you happy. :)

My first time, a soft lavender, next to a pool, flowers kyped from a nearby yard. Second time, cream gown, in a church and catered, third time in a white gown, in my home with my family and for all the right reasons.
I think you should wear what you want. Every time.

no, if the bride doesn't particularly like white, then she might go with pink or light blue. I have had friends get married in pink, blue, and light purple wedding dresses that was beautiful.....GL;)

No, you can wear whatever you want. Now a days that is the trend , to wear different colors. It makes the wedding more exciting anyway to wear beautiful colors, and it livens it up a little. Be creative, but mostly it's about being you.

I did. However, I had a friend that got married in a platinum/silver dress. It was her second marriage though, not that it means anything. But it's still your decision.

No way. In this day and age of second and even third or fourth weddings, who wears white any more?
