what is it with the, "I am a mature, educated Christian and here's what the scripture says" followed by a two-foot copy and paste of a passage.

Not trying to be cheeky, but I do know the scripture.

And I hate it when people talk condesending to me, like they automatically assume they know more than me. I'm just asking for your opinion.

Anyone have that happen to them?

I think it's an authority issue; not only do they assume that they know more than you, they assume that their answer, because it is based on sacred writ, is the ONLY answer. And they're going to prove it by the length of their posts.

Other people are willilng to have a discussion and don't need to hog the conversation. They are the ones that I read, because they're the ones I might learn something from -- I know the texts.

No, nobody is ever stupid for asking a question about religion. Many people who answer questions have no idea how little or much the asker may know about the Bible and may "over answer" to make sure they cover the bases. And, of course, there are some who just like to talk. :)

Some people's whole ego system is dependent on that medium size black book. There's no hope for them ({lol), and your sure to chapter and verse answers.
Asking definitely makes you appear more mature, but what you ask is a horse of a different color. The only really dumb questions are something easily found in search.

I'm an atheist, and I agree with you about the mile-long copy and pastes. I barely even glance at them and immediately give them a thumbs down.

Oh, I experienced that before.

My stupid roommate in college even quoted the Bible to justify his wrong doing when we were arguing, like if God said what he did was OK.

That SOB kept me awake almost everynight by watching movie in a loud volume in our room and then asked me to help him finish his assignments.

There is a truth in this world that...

"What someone else thinks of me is none of my business"

When I apply this to my thinking I spend a lot less time stressing and I can ignore other people's silliness.
