I got more out of religion than holidays. I never got any nice buildings. I got the courage to get off drugs and the void I used to have in my heart is now filled with the love of the Goddess. Blessed be.

Woa--how sad for you that you feel so much resentment. You are obviously a product of false religion because you mention the holidays and Jesus commanded us to celebrate only one thing--the memorial of his death. Keep looking. True religion has much more to offer than nice buildings. It holds the promise of everlasting life in a world ruled by God himself.

There are many other good things but they are usually the first to get ignored. If you notice most of the basics of all religions are the same: be decent and fair. But those are the same things that people learn to rationalise out of existence first.
Human nature, they call that.

how about the idea that the spirit or soul continues after death, that there is a higher purpose to excel for, a moral code, an explanation for those things that defy reality such as a baby surviving a fire consumed crash without so much as a scorch mark or bruise, and other examples of grace and divine intervention.

There are quite a few others, most philosophy, quite a bit of basic science (jesuits have probably advanced human knowledge more than any other group), and countless charitable organizations. It's just that these good things are balanced by the worst attrocities to ever have been committed be mankind, wars, torture, and genocide.

Some nice architecture and some carried over Pagan holidays. I can't think of anything else. Unless you wanted to include population control or something.

Some people have taken faith out of religion, they have something to cling to apart from their lives here on earth, good for them if that is what they believe, I personally do not believe but I am not bothered if others do.
