Hi Francis...many human foods are not healthy for our pet animals. Chocolate contains a chemical called theobromine, which acts as both a diuretic and a cardiac stimulant. It will speed up their heart rate, with possibly fatal results in the case of larger amounts. Other symptoms of chocolate poisoning include diarrhea, excessive urination, muscle tremors, and vomiting. The problem is that cats and dogs like the taste of chocolate and will try to eat it-- so it's the pet owner's job to keep them away from it. If your cat accidentally had a small taste of chocolate sometime in the past and seemed to come out of it okay, it isn't the end of the world. One lick of ice cream won't hurt it, but an ounce of chocolate is definitely toxic to a 10-pound cat, and enough to cause the above symptoms.

Other substances that are harmful to cats are caffeine, alcohol, avocadoes, fruit stems and seeds, baking powder, baking soda, and onions and garlic. Onions will cause diarrhea and vomiting in both cats and dogs and, if eaten in large quantities, will rupture red blood cells and cause anemia. Another fact, despite the traditional image of the kitten lapping up cream from a saucer, is that cats are lactose-intolerant.

Recent research has shown that cats don't have the same sensitivity to sweet foods that people and other animals may have. So he probably won't be much taken by a cookie and I think the suggestion about giving him the cookie part and not the chocolate chips is a good idea.

It's much better to share a piece of chicken, beef, pork etc. and the cat should like that more than the cookie. I would never do this except as an occasional treat and it cannot replace the cat food to which taurine is added as the bulk of a cat's diet.

As long as the cat likes it, there's no problem, my cat loves chocolate cake, creamy cheese, these little cherry gummies (so candy) if your cat likes chocolate chip cookies, let him have a bit it won't hurt him...cats eat much worse when they hunt :p (my other cat likes mice's heads so I would give cookies thumbs up lol).
Of course, don't go all overkill on us, chocolate is bad for animals, but in small dosage on rare occasions...no harm done.

Our dog used to eat chocolate, he stole it right of the table, we knew it was bad for him but he was a young dog and you can't always be around...he's 15 now and in pretty good shape, we give him fake dog chocolates, but he did ingest some amount of chocolate in the past, yes it is toxic but it won't kill your pet in a second because you gave him a piece of a cookie!

I know chocolate is bad for cats. So I guess you could share the cookie part but without the chocolate. Our cat had to go to the vet when it ate chocolate, so be careful.

i wouldn't give your cat a chocolate chip cookie because just like dogs, chocolate isn't good for cats. if you want to give a little something extra to your cat, give it a special or better tasting food. or give it more of whatever it likes. not too much though!!!!

This is a bad, bad, bad idea. Cats don't do well with sugary treats. The cat may eat it to please you and even come to like it because you do, but the sugar is bad for her teeth, the calories are empty, the chocolate will give her the runs and upset her stomach, and the excess calories may make her fat.

Don't feed cats people food at all; let them eat cat food so that they will be healthy and happy.

yes! animals should nerver be given chocolate as it is posion to them. Bake them some kitty treat cookies instead (Chocolate cookies minus chocolote ad Pounce kitty treats.) Some say cats can't taste sweets, but mine all love low fat Icecream (even though it isn't good for them) and one of mine likes cool coffee with sugar added.

Yes! Chocolate is TOXIC to cats!!! Don't do it!

Give him a piece of chicken if you want to give him a treat. Or better yet, a wholesome treat made for cats.
