That is a very good question. Jesus himself didnt want that for himself because he knows that sacred service should only be rendered to His Father Jehovah God. Why people want to bow down to the pope, a regular man and just as much a sinner as the rest of us, is a mystery to me.

It is an act of respect toward him as a leader, and only Catholics do this. It is not calling him God. I do not think that anyone in their right mind would call the Pope God.

He also said " call no man Father but Him in heaven". All organized religions are tradition bound and those in positions of power love their percs. Reverends , ayatollahs , rabbis et al.

because the catholics seem to think that he is god's literal child...he's just a guy, who isn't perfect. i've never understood catholics...
