Do they dislike it, are they just confused about it or are dogs being protective?? It's strange and we get a laugh out of it but it happens all the time.

Dogs from their ancesters the wolves are pack animals. They want to be involved in all the "family" activities. They see you and your boyfriend as the "alpha" of the family and probably are very happy when they know you are happy.

I think the dogs are just being protective when they see their owner being grabbed by someone else. Not sure if they understand humans hugging.

They are over protective and think that your bf is gonna hurt you or you are gonna hurt your bf. i knwo cuz my friends dog is like that. He barks and growls if someone hugs him its hilarious. (to me not the person who gets sicced) so theres nothing you can do but train them not to do that.

ATTENTION!!!!
They want it and they are not getting it from you so they are trying to tell you in their own way. We have 5 dogs and they all do the same thing.

Because they want to get attention. right then, you are giving all your concentration to hugging your friend. The dog just wants that for himself.

Dogs are pack animals and if you have established dominance, they want to be included.

they are both jealous, they don't like the two of you getting attention that they think they should be getting. be sure to give them a hug too.
