You aren't officially dating for a brief or long period of time, it is used to signify that one of you needs time to think or be by himself or herself and not date the other person for a while.
If you are unsure about what he meant ask him, because some guys think that when they are on a break each person can date or go out with someone else and others don't, so tell him to tell you what he means clearly otherwise you might end up with a situation you can't control and he can.

Depends on who did it. Sometimes people say that breaks are needed on a relationship, but rarely do those relationships ever work. If he is the one who asked it, then most likely means that he's gotten bored, and that he wants to see his possibilities in the real world. Also could mean that he met another girl and wants to see her without being tied to you. Im sorry if this seems harsh, but I've been on (2) breaks myself, and the same thing happened. The first thing I would say to you is that you did nothing wrong, and if you are on a break, and he was the one who asked for it, dont call him, pay attention to him, and see other people if you can, because when he sees this, he will come back to you because he doesnt want to lose you. But, if you call him, tell him how much you love him (if you do), and try to get back together with him, then I can assure you this will push him away more. I wish you the best of luck

A break is when he wants to cheat on you without a guilty conscience bothering him and if you find out his excuse will be, "we are free to see oher people". First find out why you are on a break. Were you having problems that you couldn't solve them while seeing each other. What's the break for? Where you tired of each other? Breaks just don't make any sense to me.

It's an excuse for not having to say he wants to break up with you so he can nail somebody else. Two can play that game dear. Life is short, go have fun!
