Yeah, the pope doesn't speak for all Christians, you know, just the Catholics. That's like saying Pat Robertson or Joesph Smith speaks for all Christians.
To answer that second part, yes, all Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic.
Anyways, I belong to the Church of Subgenius, the one true end of the world cult. Praise the sweet name of JR "Bob" Dobbs.

A-hem. First of all, the Pope is not the leader of all Christianity. The majority of Christians have nothing to do with him and find the Catholic heirarchy to be suspect. Aim your questions toward Catholics, not Christians.
That being said, get your facts straight. He did not say that. He read a quote from a letter that was part of a lengthy discussion written in the 15th century between an Islamic scholar and a Byzantine emperor.
I ask you, you blame Christians for attacking Islam, but aren't the muslims no better? Haven't the islamic mullahs called for the murder of americans and british citizens? Haven't muslims carried out attacks against the west? Haven't muslim radicals left trails of death and destruction throughout the world from Indonesia to India to the whole African continent, to the former Soviet republic, to England, to Lockerby Scotland, to Spain and to America? It has been said many times that Muslims love death. They have inflicted a great death toll to prove it. They began long before Iraq (remember all the mayhem of the 70's and 80's? How about 50 hostages in Iran in 1979?) and before a danish secular newspaper ever printed a cartoon and before the Pope said anything. I will never forget the faces of Palestinians rejoicing in the street at the news of the 2001 death toll in our country inflicted at the hands of muslims. Were those events- attacking us and then rejoicing about it by the common citizen- supposed to be non-provocative to US?
Do we provoke Muslims? Probably- in our defense of ourselves from them. I think the Islamic mind needs to grow up and get over the crusades. Saladin was brilliant and a great military stategist. But why do Muslims insist on calling everything that happens a crusade? Oh, I know the answer. Because they never ended the first one and today is just a continuation. History has proven that Muslims MUST fight someone. If you aren't killing us, you're killing each other. History gives testimony to that. The Pope is unnecessary.

First of all, I'm a Christian, and I don't have a pope. The Bible doesn't authorize one, and I don't follow one. If you don't want us to put all Muslims together in one basket, don't do the same with us.
Now, as for what that German in Italy said about Islam, it has been spread by the sword and that struggle often takes the form of killing those who disbelieve. You might not believe in doing so; you might claim that the Koran doesn't authorize it. You can't deny that many others do teach it.
You say that "innocent Iraq" was invaded to provoke Muslims? The UN had enough evidence to see that Sadam was a genocidal maniac with chemical weapons; if you want to blame somebody, blame him and bin-Laden. If you aren't happy with the Danish cartoons portraying Muslims as violent, go crash airplanes in Denmark. If you don't like what the pope said, go bomb Italy. Don't blame Christians for these things.
I would be more than happy forgetting that the Middle East existed, and probably most Americans would agree. If Muslims would leave us alone for a few months, we'd probably leave Iraq once and for all.

Dear Ahmed,
You need to read more about this incident.
The pope gave a talk at a university regarding the disparity between religion and violence. It was a long talk. Somewhere in the middle he used a quote from a source from 6 centuries ago. The topic of his discussion was religion vs. violence.
Now, someone has lifted the sentence in the middle of his talk, and used it to inflame small thinking, blindly following people such as, apparently, yourself.
Please go read what really happened.
Be an adult.
The pope is very upset about this misinterpretation and misuse of his speech.
By the way, i'm a Christian but not a Catholic. I think the pope has the best intentions, but i don't follow him.
i believe in and trust the One True God.
*hugs* and *peace*

Hang on. First, the POPE said it. Not all the Christians in the world. We do have the right to think for ourselves. How about this question...what about the muslims who think it is their responsibilty to wipe out Western culture in order to secure a higher place in heaven? The Pope stated an opinion. He has the right. He has not bombed or killed thousands of people. Now I am not saying all Muslims feel this way, becuase I know that they don't. Moral of the story. Don't pin one mans statement on a whole group. Just as we should not pin some muslim actions on the whole group.

Please see my response. Don't call him my Pope; I am a Christian of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints affiliation. There are more Christian religions/churches than you can shake a stick at. Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, Catholics, the list goes on and on and on; and on. About the only thing we have in common is we do agree there is a God. The style of worship of God then becomes very different. (We even have churches where they pass deadly snakes around for people to hold). As with most people in all the nations of the earth if you removed the politicians and others preaching hatred and yaddah you would find that the working stiff people would all get along just fine. I for one am sick and tired of the killing and hatred and dissent over religion and politics and skin color and God knows what else!! Why can't we all just get along?????? I try to keep an open mind about Muslims. I am acquainted with several and find them to be just like me; they work hard, they support their families, none of them have horns growing from their heads, and; none of us seem to have much use for politicians. We all laughed at the joke, "How can you tell when a politician is lieing?". HIS LIPS MOVE. Don't blame me for Danish cartoons as I don't even like the ones here in the US. If all people would make more of an attempt to understand and communicate with others the barriers and fences would cease to exist. Have a good day and my best wishes to you.

I would be very happy if you would stop saying 'your pope'. The pope is the leader of the catholics. the rest of the Christians do not follow the pope, the popes teaching, or anything that deals with the pope telling us what to do. The christians who aren't catholic believe in the bible and feel that the pope is just another man with his own opinions.

The Pope has no reason to apologize, he quoted a 14th century emperor and it was taken out of context. I know of no other religion in recent history that has been as militant, radical, and terroristic as the Islamic radicals. Almost all terrorist acts have been in the name of Islam, all beheadings, suicide bombing, and torture has been in the name of Islam. The rest of the world should demand an apology from the Islamic clerics, and a pledge for them to stop the senseless violence done by these so called true believers.

I'm not Roman Catholic. The pope is over Roman Catholics. No other group acknowledges him as their leader except for Roman Catholics.
As for Islam, I personally separate traditional and modern/liberal versions of each sect. I would say that modern Islam or Liberal Islam is much like Liberal Christianity and Reform Judaism in where the followers are allowed to choose what or how they believe. In Liberal Christianity, they are not forced to believe traditional Christian beliefs. In Reform Judaism, people are allowed to choose what they want to believe and reject.
I would say that it is the same for Modern Islam or Liberal Islam. I'd say that the modern/liberal Islam followers are allowed to pick and choose what they want to believe.
I however do think that the original version of Islam is rather warlike. I know that Roman Catholicism was warlike in the past but I don't think the original version of Christianity was ever warlike. Judaism's original versions were quite warlike.
So, I'd say that modern Islam was not described by the pope.
So, Liberal versions of Islam are not warlike.
