You probably have too many programs running, including bogus startup programs that you do not need and SpyWare.
Go to the START menu and pick RUN. Then type MSCONFIG. Go to the startup section and uncheck some of these items. Keep your Anti-virus program active.
You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

If Your system can not open file imiditaly then you can defrage the dirve on shich your files are available. If you are daily working on a perticuler file then it will write the in the diffrent-diferent memory loaction of the hard disk then it will take much time therefor you can defrage your drive
or
The other reason is that the your system is suffer from the any virsuses or threads.

1. Try to install some antivirus and virus check your system.
2. Free up some space in your windows installation drive.
3. Reinstall your system.
4. If all these doesn't work, buy a new PC :D.

well thw problem that you are having can be there b'coz of many reasons. its hard ato know which problem is causing this to Your computer...
but check these out.
1. do you have any version of Oracle or SQL software running on your computer.
2. do u have any startup programs that boot up along with your sytem
3. is your antivirus program blocking your programs
4. do you have multiple sftwares installed on your system.
5. is your c: drive showing less free space, it should have more than 2GB of free space in it, this is the minimum space..
6. is your pc infected by anykind of antivirus software....
well these are some of the reasons that i can think of, for your computer to be slow.. check these first.. and you can know whats the problem with your pc... ok

defragment ur harddisk very often, say once in a week. this will divide the file in small chunks and distribute it on drive depending upon disk read/write speed thereby optimising time of transfer of file from hdd to memory.

you should perform a scan disc hard drive in order to free up space on your hard drive or just rebot your system by closing your browser and restarting your computer.
