It was written according to the standards 2000 years ago. Ethics and morals have changed. We no longer own and beat slaves.

False premise. The bible is not being rejected for its stand on morals and ethics... it is rejected because it is, for the most part, stupid, and clearly mythological in nature. (Admitedly, though, a lot of the bits related to ethics and morality are twisted, bizarre, outdated and irrelevant.) What is being rejected, rather, is the idea that ethics and morals come from god, and that the reason to be moral and ethical is because god must be obeyed. That is patently nonsensical.
Cooperation, altruism and love are innate properties of human existence... a more sophisticated version of the social organization that you can see among pods of dolphins or orcas, packs of wolves, lion prides and troops of chimpanzees. Moral consensus, moral conscience and mutual empathy are evolved survival traits. These are social constructs... the social lubrication that allows people to exist together. People come away with the misconception that they don't exist, absent religion. The religious puppet masters try to perpetuate that idea, in order to protect their conduits to wealth and power... but that is a canard. This has to do, entirely, with human nature.
Meditate on this for a little while. Christians make up about 75% of the US population and 75% of the US prison population. No big surprise there.
Atheists, on the other hand, make up about 10% of the US population... but they only make up 0.2% of the US prison population. Now, isn't THAT a surprise? That means that atheists are FIFTY (50) times LESS LIKELY to be incarcerated than Christians. Pretty strange, huh, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals?
I can think of only two possibilities that might reasonably be said to account for this disparity:
1. Atheists are of a higher ethical and moral caliber than Christians, and thus are less prone to do the same kinds of nasty things that land so many Christians in the slammer;
OR,
2. Atheists are, overall, a lot smarter than Christians and thus, they are less likely to get caught in the course of their transgressions.
It's GOT to be one or the other... take your pick.

Most major religions teach ethics and morals......many of them also teach other things that you may or may not agree with. The bible is so much more than just a code of ethics, you should pick it up sometime, then you would know.

People don't reject the bible because of its stand on ethics and morals, they reject the bible despite its stand on "ethics and morals."

Because if you lived by the bibles ethics and morals, the world would be screwed. heres an exsample :
Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:8
God kills everyone (men, women, children, infants, newborns) in Sodom and Gomorrah by raining "fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven." Well, almost everyone -- he spares the "just and righteous" Lot and his family.

It is not the ethics and morals that people reject, it is Jesus Christ, God, the miracles, the history and the prophesies. The vast majority of people in the world either do or want to subscribe to a good moral standing, but they cannot accept a merciful and forgiving God. They cannot surrender their personal rights to God and totally submit to him. This is why the world is in such a mess.

Why not? It was written by MAN and MAN asks us to believe it was inspired by God and if you truly believe in it then you must believe the premise it puts forth that God gave man the free will to accept or reject it's teachings each according to his conscience. It isn't Islam's Koran where members are freely encouraged by some Islamic religious leaders to commit murder and mayhem against other religious peoples of the world according to their conscience or lack thereof. Though if you take our Old Testament literally in stead of as the history book it is, you might not believe they even had a conscience it is so bloody and war-filled. The Gospel message of FORGIVENESS which is not overly emphasized in the OT may or may not enlighten the biggest difference in the two for you.

the bible's ethics and morales are absolute
the lives of man and the situations we encounter are not
ethics and morality have shades of gray that are not represented by the bible. it is too simplistic a view.
