Realize that Cain, Abel, and Seth are the only named brothers. Adam & Eve obviously had more children over their rather lengthy lives.
Because the bloodlines would've been pure, it would not be an issue to have inter-sibling relations. Cain's wife would have been a sister, or perhaps even a niece, depending on the age he married.

You know, growing up I used to ask that question all the time and nobody could ever answer me because they would have to consider:
1) Adam and Eve weren't the only people on earth OR -
2) If they were they had more children than just Cain and Abel- AND
3) Cain then had sex with his sister who somehow was never mentioned in the bible until Cain went to Nod and married her
The other question I used to ask which was never answered is if people believe that Adam and Eve were the first two people then doesn't that mean that ALL people are descendants of Adam and Eve and therefore related and should all have those genetic characteristics. How then did we mutate into all of the different races?? (Get ready for the Tower of Babel story - another one of those stories made up by men to try and explain something they didn't understand at the time).

This question is asked about once a week or so. Perhaps Yahoo should make a FAQ section...
The Bible doesn't say that Cain met his wife in Nod. It says that after he went there, he fathered a son. Nor does it say that there were only four people on earth at that time.
During the Patriarchal age, the heads of families were the ones who offered sacrifices. Since Cain and Abel were both offering, they were not only already married, but the heads of their families.
Somebody - either Cain, Abel, or an unnamed brother - married a sister. This was not outlawed until the time of Moses. If Cain didn't marry a sister, he married a niece or other close relative. That wife chose to accompany him in his exile, and that's when she bore Enoch.
Please read what the Bible actually says before trying to attack it.

One answer is that daughters often are not mentioned in Bible lineages. Occasionally sons and whole generations are left out as well. If Genesis follows this pattern, then there could have been perhaps 1000's of people involved in events at the time. Using a literal interpretaion, Most men lived nearly 1000 years. Many offspring would then be expected, and grandchildren, etc. Marriages would have involved people of close kinship, but you gotta start somewhere.
The Bible is far from a complete history of the world. The OT is hitting some highlights important to the Jewish community. There are some obvious gaps, as you show here, which we must either ignore, or fill in using some degree of reason an conjecture. It's hard to be sure. Gaps in accounts are found in virtually any historical work.
Hope this helps.

As everyone has stated, Adam and Eve had quite a few infants. After Abel's loss of life Seth became the only by way of whom God's promised seed would arrive to redeem sinful guy. (Gen 3:15, Gen 4:25) it is the reason his call is stated at the same time as his different brothers weren't. confident, the brothers and sisters married and had infants. Gen 4:17 mentions Cain's spouse and son. by potential of today's elementary this is gross, yet in addition risky via fact of inherited illnesses and so on. that get accelerated if one reproduces with an in depth relative. we would desire to undergo in concepts, although, that Adam and Eve were perfect at their introduction. At their sin they began to flow to pot, yet not something like us today. Adam grow to be waiting to stay to 930 years. the hazards inherent in a brother and sister marrying and having infants weren't contemporary lower back then. The very next era would have cousins to pick from and in some years it wasn't a controversy in any respect. Later, whilst the regulation grow to be given to Moses for the Jewish u . s . all issues have been ruled to guy's benefit; marriage, wellbeing, inheritance, worship... there grow to be greater to it than the ten commandments. there have been 613 regulations that set the rustic of Israel different than for the pagan international locations surrounding them and guarded the lineage that deliver approximately the messiah. edit: BTW, Eric Von Anderseck made that stuff up. None of this is interior the Bible. What a stupid distraction for those incredibly finding for actuality.

Adam and Eve were the first 2 people and all other people were their children or their children's children etc., but, remember, Adam lived almost 1,000 years. There was alot of time for their children to move away and even have their own children before Cain married one of them.

He took a sister for a wife. The Bible say Adam and Eve continued having children.
Marrying close relatives was allowed until God outlawed it later.

It was one of his sisters....he took her with him when he left. The Bible often mentioned sons..and only a few daughters by name. But Adam and Eve had more children than Cain & Abel...they actually had another son Seth if u keep reading who the "good"seed continued through since Abel was killed.

wow ive answered this question so many times its not even funny..... They had kids before cain and abel obviously. do you really think that like the day after they were created they went and ate the fruit. When God is talking to eve about what she had done, he says "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing." She obviously had other children because she wouldn't have known what childbearing meant if she hadn't and God wouldn't have said that the pain would be greatly increased if she had never felt it before.

Adam and Eve lived to be over 900 years old... obviously they had other children over their rather lengthy lives. In 900 years a lot of people can be born... it's been estimated that the population grew to over 100,000 in just their life time.
