It sounds like he might be gay (well, bisexual since he's dating you). Usually straight guys tend to be homophobic and by his reaction to you asking him, it doesn't seem like he is. If he is gay and/or bi, he is probably using you as a cover or maybe he is unsure of his sexuality or even trying to fight the fact that he may be gay.
My b/f is bisexual and he is the most masculine guy I've ever known. He is hot and muscular and nobody would ever guess he likes guys too!!! SO, don't ever think you can tell a guys sexuality by his looks or actions.
The question you need to ask yourself isn't "is he gay?", it's "how will you handle his answer if he is?" Can you accept him if he's gay? If not, don't pressure him into telling you.
