You can open a torrent file with a BitTorrent client. A BitTorrent client is a program that helps you download files using BitTorrent technology. Examples of BitTorrent clients:

Download any one of them from the above websites.

Torrent files are small contain information that lets them download large files from the Internet. Once you have downloaded a torrent file, use the BitTorrent program to open the file. BitTorrent: http://www.bittorrent.com
The BitTorrent program will then download the larger file that you want. If the torrent points to more than one file, you can use the "details" link in BitTorrent to only donwload some of the files if you want.
Once the download is completed, if you have trouble using the file that the Torrent downloaded, repost with information about the downloaded file (s) - file extension(s) etc and we can tell you how to use those files.

You can open a torrent file conveniently with the VLC media player. The VLC media player plays almost every file type (especially those obtained via torrents)
