Officially a dog is a puppy until it is 12 months old. It then becomes a junior until 18 months old, followed by special yearling. It is considered to be an adult on attaining the age of 2

We ran some extensive tests some years ago, and the determining factor in how long a puppy should stay on puppy food is the size of the breed. The smaller the breed the longer they can stay on puppy food. The best schedule for giant and medium sized dogs is when the dog has completed 1 (one) 40lb bag of food it should be switched to adult food,,,,,,,, or,,,,,, it should be started on "large breed" puppy food and after completing 2 (two) 40lb bags switched to adult food.

The AKC says a dog is a puppy until the age of two.
My year and a half female is still on puppy food, she looks great,
if you want to change over to dog food wait until your pup is about 18 month old, then switch it a little at a time.

okay this would be 18 mths to 2 years...it will be settled as an adult by then...it depends on the size of the dog. Large breeds are not adults until 3 yrs old, small dogs at 1 etc...

It depends on the breed. If you think your dog is fully grown then you should consider changing to adult food. The puppy food is high in fat for growth. It won't hurt your pup to keep him on puppy food but he may start gaining weight if his body isn't using the fat in the food.

You should keep your puppy on puppy food until he's a year old, and when you change his food, do it gradually because dogs get the runs if you change their food all at once.

In the case of our dog, NEVER! lol! She will be a mad puppy till the day she dies!
about the food thing though...check with your vet 'cos it depends on the breed and weight of the dog and what type of food you are feeding it! :)

When he is an adult. Even when he reaches full maturity that shouldn't stop him from acting like a puppy.
