Absolutely we need to forgive to be forgiven. We need to forgive other and orselves when we do wrong.

1. Only God can forgive sin because all sin is an offense against Him.

2. We are to forgive even as we are forgiven.

We have a very precious rite from GOD. If we forgive someone who sins against us, GOD will also forgive them. So I think we could at least return the favor and forgive those GOD has forgiven.

Why not forgive them anyway whether or not they ask forgiveness from god?

Yup yup! Matthew 6: 14-15:
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Since God judges and since God covers our sins, may you want reconsider you ability to forgive more than God.

In other words, if God forgave, does it really matter what you do?

We should, but forgiveness is a difficult concept for many to grasp and accept
