Hard to say, even adult men say things that are stupid to women,
I upset my wife from time to time saying something dumb.
but I will say this:

A 14 year old boy does nott have the resources mental, spirtual, physical, or and most importantly Emotionally to support a relationship with a girl.

but, I bet he was scared about it ( although he won't ever admit that) and it was a reaction.
like:
she's getting to close, and I need to do something to keep her at a distance. bet he didn't even think if it was hurtful or not.

Remember when you were younger, & it was acceptable for girls your age to say that they didn't like boys, & for boys to say they didn't like girls, even though they might have a crush on someone? Well at 14, he could be in a state of transition, he's still carrying the belief that to be accepted by his peers he has to treat girls like he hates them, meanwhile deep down inside he could have a hot burning crush on the girl he's telling to f-off.
No, he doesn't mean to hurt her, he's just still immature, & a little too self absorbed. I'll bet right after he said those things that hurt her, he was asking himself, "Now why in the world did those words come out of my mouth?"

Maybe he doesn't know how to just say, 'lets just be friends'. He sounds immature...sounds like he doesn't know how to listen and talk respectivaly, she should get over this guy. There are a million other guys who will IM her in a nice way.
