i am a muslim turned atheist , and the only 2 people i respect and honor very much are jesus christ and buddha, for their great mercy, love and forgiveness towards everyone. i dont believe in god either.

if every human being today forget god, religion and read the life stories of jesus and buddha , and think to emulate them, this world will be a wonderful place.
(to be honest i dont emulate anyone, but i urge others to follow jesus and siddartha the buddha)

what are your thoughts?

i respect both, i grew up under both their teachings. i choose JC coz He the one that give Himself to me just like a very good friend wld do 4 me. He promise to be with me forever like a very good freind or loving spouse wld do. Buddha for me is like a councillor or seminar lecturer, give u all the skill & know-how, but leave u to learn & sort out by yourself which i found myself becoming very self-centred & self focused instead.

Definately, though not only those two, confucius and lao tzu also were influencial and wise. But I believe Buddha and Jesus had a great lesson to teach, but that Jesus's was misunderstood. I turned to Buddhism because the actions of the Christians I knew were not at all consistent with Jesus's teachings.

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without"

I also find that the teachings of The Buddha and Jesus affect me more than other teachings.

However, I would encourage you to respect all great religious figures. While you are no longer a Muslim, I think you would find that Muhammad was an amazing individual, worthy of our respect (even the Pope's!).

Other "religious" figures I would encourage you to read about: Gandhi, Lau Tzu, St. Francis...

Well, that will do for now. peace

I agree, I am a buddhist, because I find that the philosophy and teachings are so true for me, but I have a great deal of respect for Jesus, who essentially taught the same message, just with a bit of extra stuff added on (the not so good bit). However, I would also add the Dalai Lama to that list.

I think I hear what your saying. You also reminded me of a chapter from a book that I read often...

"Give up religiosity and knowledge, and
people will benefit a hundredfold.
Discard morality and righteousness, and
people will return to natural love.
Abandon shrewdness and profiteering, and
there won't be any robbers or thieves.

These are external matters, however.
What is most important is what happens within:
look to what is pure;
hold to what is simple;
let go of self interest;
temper your desires."
Lao Tzu, from The Tao Te Ching (chapter 19).

I think Jesus and the Buddha would read this, look at each other and nod. Are you nodding?

Anyway, congratulations on your new found freedom.

I am amazed that you don't believe in God, but respect Jesus for his great mercy, love and forgiveness toward every one. Most people who do not believe in God, do not believe in Jesus, and some who do believe in God, do not believe in Jesus.

Truly, you are one in a million!! Glad to see that you urge others to follow Jesus. Hope that you keep reading the bible so you get to know more and more about Jesus and his teachings, mercy, love and forgiveness!! He truly is Wonderfull!!

No one dies for the sins of others not even Jesus
And if you turned from being a muslim to an atheist either your parents didnt teach you much about islam or you were too obstinate.
If you read the Quran properly you wouldve seen that The Holy Prohet(SAW) was the first to raise the status of women and protect them under the shade of Islam
BTW which country is your origin?

I am happy for you... I have no thoughts really because that is your belief and I have no right to interfere with YOUR thoughts about religion.. I studied Buddhism a lot when I was in the Orient for 12 years.. A beautiful, mystic religion

I am thinking - the idea is good - but you know
there are to many fanatics out there who would
not hesitate to crucify anyone who believes in a
different God.
LOVE , MERCY, FORGIVENESS - that would
make the world a better place.

If you really honored Jesus you would do what he said....and you would obey Him.

" I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life; no man can come to the Father except through me". -- Jesus Christ

He that has my commandments and keeps them , loves me, and I and My Father will reveal ourselves to him..._-- jesus
