The Pope has no reason to apologize, he quoted a 14th century emperor and it was taken out of context. I know of no other religion in recent history that has been as militant, radical, and terroristic as the Islamic radicals. Almost all terrorist acts have been in the name of Islam, all beheadings, suicide bombing, and torture has been in the name of Islam. The rest of the world should demand an apology from the Islamic clerics, and a pledge for them to stop the senseless violence done by these so called true believers.

I do believe that Benedict regrets the hurt felt by many Muslims by a quote he used in a speech to scholars. Neither he nor Catholic teaching condemn Islam.
What bothers me about this is that this was a speech he was given to scholars and the quote was offered as an academic quote and was not intended to be applied to sensibilities of today. It was taken out of context and has flared up. I have to wonder if it was published and passed on with the intention of stirring up trouble.
I can completely understand why that quote would offend Muslims, but it was a quote from 600 years ago. Being offended by history will not help us learn from it. We can and should be horrified by ignorant "sensibilities" of the past (in the USA, treatment of slaves and Native Americans come to mind), but we need to take that emotion and constructively move forward, realizing that the opinions of people 400 years dead are not a reflection of how people think today.

I Think it shows the ignorance the present pope has about Islam.
The fact that his understanding of Islam is not beyond that of a 14th century Christian emperor is astounding; the fact that he had no idea that this would offend Muslims throughout the world is mind-boggling.
Imagine if the Dalai Lama said that Jesus "didn't bring anything new to the world." We Christians would react the same way Muslims are.
Another reason not to be Catholic (and I love the Catholic religion)

for a individual of his high quality, he holds much greater household projects. he ought to attempt bringing communities closer , quite this Pope looks driving communities greater aside. to cite somebody making use of as an excuse became something incorrect. there have been many qoutes yet rather he chosen to cite a guy -- emperor who killed many human beings himself. shows it, doesnt it?. the Pope might have qouted what human beings like -- Thomas Carlyle in 'Heroes and Hero Worship and the Heroic in historical past,' 1840 Mahatma Gandhi, a fact printed in 'youthful India,'1924. Dr. William Draper in 'historical past of psychological progression of Europe W. Bernard Law Montgomery Watt in 'Muhammad(saaw) at Mecca,' Oxford, 1953. ok. S. Ramakrishna Rao in 'Muhammad(saaw): The Prophet of Islam,' 1989 Jules Masserman in 'Who have been Histories great Leaders?' in TIME magazine, July 15, 1974 Gibbon in 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' 1823

First i request all Muslim brothers to thank pope for his greatness to accept gracefully the unintentional mistake and apologise.I am extremely thankful for the christian brothers also for supporting us during this tough time when everything backfires.
The problem is, in order to be a Muslim one should believe Jesus as the prophet of God and shall not insult any other faith. Thanks pope. God bless you.

there is still an unresolved fued between two inflexible dogmas
meaning: war is inevitable
solution? God, without the teachings of man and the self made religions to try and explain God
fill that spiritual need, and the need to harm self, others goes away
if only we can expand our universe to encompass all people and leave religion out of it
god - an uncertain term and usually confuses and is never agreed upon but radically defended and killed over...
can't we stop this mess?

Be Aware...
The pope doesn't speak for all Christians. And actually - speaking to a number of Catholics in my life- I find he doesn't speak for all Catholics (even though- as figurehead, that's how it is SUPPOSE to work).
