You're not an atheist. I think you're an agnostic. An agnostic believes in a "divine being," but doesn't believe that this being can be defined by the words of man.
I don't think that "life" is some kind of cosmic accident. There's too much order in the universe, which hints at some kind of logic. Although I'm not stupid, I can't make sense of it and I don't give myself a headache trying.
The practices of all the organized religions in this world is what makes me, I guess, a non-believer in the kind of "God" they profess to be the "only God." Like you, I'm sick of all the hypocrisy. Shiites killing Sunnis, Sunnis killing Shiites, Protestants killing Catholics, Catholics killing Protestants. What's the difference? And all in the name of religion? It's just a bunch of ego-maniacal, self-serving individuals using religion to justify their infantile responses.
All the people you mentioned are just....people. They may or may not have had some inside track to a divine being. It doesn't matter. They espoused something other people wanted to hear, so they were "special." But when it all comes down to it, they were just people. Everyday, ordinary people, subject to the same whims, emotions and temptations as everyone else on the planet.
People need to learn not to "worship" some person that has the gift of the gab and makes unsubstantiated claims to being "the voice of God." People need to think for themselves and worship in their hearts and treat other people like they want to be treated. What's that: the Golden Rule? If they don't apply the Golden Rule, then they condemn themselves to be treated the same way they treat others. It's only natural. Peace.

We have to remember that all of us are human and the only perfect person that ever walked the face of this earth was Jesus. Men of God in those days lived for Him but still faced challenges the way we do and especially when we are called to lead a poeple we have to have a clear head and heart in order to hear Him clearly. We fall, we repent, we get back up. God is a forgiving God. No one man is perfect.

I believe the ungodly things were just the human sides showing, and that man isn't perfect. But the Bible shows God loves them, and Jesus (God), came to earth as man and lived a sinless life, dieing for us so we could go to Heaven. I can't comment about Buddha or Muhammad, as I don't know about their life.

By saying they did ungodly deeds, you validate the existence of God. But to answer your question, they were all human like you and I. We crucified the last perfect man.

As a fellow atheist i beleive people are blind to the negatives of thier own religions. They focus on the positives to justify thier beliefs. Just as christians tend to forget they came to america 500 years ago and systematically destroyed the indian nations that lived here in america or how the christian conquistadors killed the myans and incans simply because they would not accept thier god. There is blood on the hands of the chrisitan religion.

if only perfect people were people of God then only Jesus would be a person of God.
People are flawed.
Acts 2:21
And it shall come to passThat whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.’
The Law requires perfection and trying to live by the law proved it couldn't be done.
James 2:10
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
Jesus came to earth, died and rose again to give us a new path.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Men are imperfect and ungodly. God is perfect. If the Bible, Torah or Qu'ran presented men as without sin then it would be a lie.

Don't include Mohammad with the true prophets of the bible, where do you get they did ungodly things? Mohammed certainly was a heathen, pedophile and murderer. But all the others were doing what God had told them to do, yes they did screw up sometimes, but they were still Godly through faith and repentance.

ahmed...you are proof of evolution and ability to change
I too awoke thanks to actually reading my scriptures and seeing harm done in God or Allah's name and I couldn't justify calling people who occupy a land as evil for being in the way of greed and not believing exactly what others believe
religion tends to make athiests once you actually read the holy books and try and apply reason to faith against the abject staunch reality around us
good and bad is defined by those in charge...apparently those in charge have no problem with corruption, rape, genocide like the 'godly' figures of the bible
even the main author of new testament was a two faced liar caught in his own lies (Paul) and people don't actually read it for themselves, why he was asked to perform the ritual in Acts 21 and 22 and the riot that ensued, why his own followers took vows of death
as if that wasnt' enough to wake people up to the fact that his teachings inspired violent intent
