you can mount it yourself if you feel comfortable doing it but remember that the wall mount must be screwed into 2 wall studs not just one so buy a stud finder they are very handy....also remeber though that the wall mounts for these tv's can only be installed into wooden wall studs or concrete they cannot be used with metal studs as the metal studs will not support the weight of the tv.... if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself look in the yellowpages for handy men alot of them will do it cheaper for you but make sure that they guarantee their work.

Just a thought... but if you're spending all that money on such a great set, then the 500 bucks might be worth it to guarantee a proper install..you wouldn't believe the number of people that spend 1000's on a set, then try and hang it on the wall like a picture... it just doesn't work that way, it's too heavy, it needs to be balanced, and to get the best picture, it needs to be positioned properly for your viewing area. I know it's a lot of money but think how horrible you will feel if it drops off the wall ... at least if best buy does it, they'd have to bring you another one.. good luck!

If you buy a stand off the shelf, check that it is suitable for the weight of your screen. About the cheapest model I've seen is from Scan in the UK, but froogle or kelkoo will find you the best price on the same model wherever you are.
Then DIY, or get a local handyman to install it.

$500 is unreasonable. You should be able to find a home contractor to do it for much less. However, all the above answers about direct mounting to studs are correct. Large Plasmas are heavy.

ummmm ... install it yourself, if that's an option - or get someone you know who's reasonably handy to do it for you.
