When you go into Starbucks or Costa or one of those overpriced and underquality coffee houses, you cannot simply ask for a "cup of coffee"

The staff look at you as if you're mad and have asked them for the gear knob from a 1979 Ford Capri in a bucket filled with donkeys urine.

They have lists of things called Mocha, Frocha, Chocha, Frappatino, Chochotino, and Mochachochofrappachino.

Why can't I just have a goddam mug of ground filter coffee with some milk and 2 sugars?

That has got to be one of the dumbest answers I have ever read in my life.
Do you think I go out into town looking for a Starbucks specifically because I fancy a cup of coffee?
When I'm in town shopping or at the airport, and I feel drained and in need of a sugar/caffeinne fix, I don't have access to the sort of coffee making facilities that exist in my kitchen at home.
Do you carry a kettle with you everywhere you go?

Ok, here's a counter-question - considering that Amsterdam is famous for its coffee shops, why does their coffee taste like utter shite half the time?

Maybe because you don't want to learn to make one yourself or you are just lazy. Buy Nescafe coffee or any coffee brand common wherever you are. Boil some water, place a spoonful of coffee into the mug, pour the boiled water into and put some sugar to taste. Presto! you have your cup of coffee. Invite friends to share your coffee you might label as "Swampy_Bo Coffee" to unload their blues away.

You may also list new brands like "Fecoke" for coffee and coke mix with ice cubes, and "Fepeps" for coffee and pepsi mix, "Coffee on the Rocks" for coffee with ice cubes, or compete their Chocha with your "Chochafetina"- a mix of chocolate, tea and coffee in an ice-cold tin can...and so on. I'll bet you and your friends will adapt to the taste later on. For what is in the brand anyway? Starbucks are famous for their brand of coffee because of class advertisements and high pricing for the moneyed and those with propensity to be honored.

lol, I agree! I hate going there for that very reason. I don't want my coffee to have a bizillion calories either!

I go to my neighborhood, family owed coffee house to get my cuppa joe, but I have talked to many who have said that McDonald's coffee has improved vastly in the last year and they will add the milk and two sugars for you.
Good luck and down with the chain coffeehouses!

i am sure there r other places where u can go to simply buy a cup of coffee. people like to be pampered these days sometimes a simple cup of coffee just doesn't cut it. in today's society there has to be choices with everything even if it infringes with the kind of people that don't care for change.

Go to a greasy spoon and ask for a cup of coffee, they probably won't even ask you if you want milk or sugar.

If you want designer coffee, tweaked to your preference, go to a designer coffee shop and bring your credit card and pretentions, if you just want a nice cup of coffee, stay at home and make it yourself, or go to a friends house.... simple as.

I don't understand the Starbucks craze either. Go to your local donut shop, fast food place, or convenience store. When things make you very upset, and you don't need them for survival, avoid the situations.

Try dunkin donuts or Tim Hortons. They've always served me 'coffee', just the way I like it.

I always do. I ask for "small" and they give me what they call "tall." They often ask "bold" or "regular?" and they often ask if I want them to leave room for cream. I add my own cream or milk and sweetner from their table of choices.
