I want to find a place in the Chicago area where I can explore and grow spiritually. I'm not a big believer in organized religions, or rituals. But, I do believe that there is some sort of "God" out there. Beyond that, I'm not sure of anything. What kind of group should I join or belong to, or should I just not belong to anything.

ahhh you have awakened!

welcome to a scary world of uncertainty but please follow your heart and seek out a place focussed on love, tollerance, spirituality and working together in the community

yeah, once you have the facts or see the lies, religions tend to fade and you "lose hope"

well....lol....keep the faith and follow your heart, seek peace of mind, soundness of soul and wellness of being and your own chosen spirituality as it continues to evolve forwards

going backwards is dogma, faith and conservative thought trying to hold onto what worked for others but not yourself

you are unique... visit churches and ask questions

it's the people there not the title you should be concerned with

the name of the religion or building is less important than the character of the people gathering there

Hi--The way America is now, it's pretty much a smorgasbord out there as far as "religion" goes. There are hundreds of "religions" available. So how do you find what is right? I would recommend caution. All roads may lead to Rome but not all religions are acceptable to God. Don't base your decision on feelings, as feelings can be very deceptive. (Anyone who has married the wrong person can tell you that.) Outward appearances aren't a totally reliable indicator either because Jesus said even Satan can appear as an angel of light. Some "religions" appear quite holy but in actuality do nothing to make a person truly acceptable to the LORD. Personally, I believe that the answer is not found in a "religion" but in a relationship with a person--Jesus Christ. I have found that It is a moment by moment walk with Someone who loves me beyond my comprehension, who responds to me with grace and mercy (and loving correction when I need it.) He has promised that He will not fail me nor forsake me and this has proven true over the years. To get started with this relationship go to this link: http://livingwaters.com/good/ Hope this helps. Take care.

Find a group of folllowers that acknowledge that the church is the body of believers not the building that they gather in. Everyone calls the building the church and that is not true. We the people are the church from all across the world those of us that believe and accept Jesus as our saviour and accept His saving ggrace. People who teach straight from the Bible There are several things I love about our pastor. He is a school custodian, he teaches straight from the bible, he makes fun of himself while giving a little light humor to his message to us from God, which actually makes it easier to understand at times, he will help anyone who has a need, and our children can stay with us even if they get a little noisy, we do not have to put them in a nursery. The older children have their Sunday school. search with your heart and you will find a good group of people like I have to life t your spirit and help you grow with the Lord. May God Bless you and you find what you seek.

I too was raised catholic and when I got older, I realized that the religion was a bunch of crap. I believe in GOD but i dont go to any church or follow any religion. I believe that as long as you live everyday in GODs way the best you can, you will be alright. that means no murder, raping, robbing, etc. I also live in the chicagoland area but I dont really know of anything out there for guys like us. just live your life day to day and dont go to another religion because they all brainwash you.

Become a Deist, or join the Gaia movement. Neither one has an organized group or religious cult, but both are quite nice.

Sam D,
So skip religion and be spiritual with Christ. Trash the traditions that make void the word of God. Become a Protestant. If you want to come to God, that's Him drawing you. But if you don't want to come to God, well see ya.

"Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be also".
If you have peace, love, forgiveness, and belief in Jesus Christ being the begotten son of God, then I would say that you do not need a religion to guide you.
Ask and you will be told, seek, and you shall find.
Man made traditions will confuse you, but the Spirit of God will lead you.
Just believe that God will direct you in the right path, and do not worry.
That takes the human reasoning out, and shows faith in the power, and words, of God.

If you are unsure about things then do some research and get educated on your own... don't join a group because then you will only be learning what the group believes
