You can get microsoft word for a good price at http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?index=software&tag=5742-20&keywords=microsoft+office
On Amazon you will find different software versions of microsoft word. Of course the older then version the cheaper it is. Make sure you know the difference between Mac version and window version.
If you just need it to just type and that's it, I recommend getting the cheapest version and not spend over $100 if that's all you're going to do. But if you need it for school and other stuff that requires more than just typing program, get the latest version or used version.

The latest Microsoft Office is 2007 which is not yet released. Currently the latest is Microsoft Office 2003. You can get the information from here : http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/professional.mspx
