It is a split within the Islamic faith where one group believes leaders should be direct descendants of the prophet and the other believes that leaders should be elected.
At least that's my understanding of it.

Shias like to slaughter Sunnis whereas Sunnis like to slaughter Shias. But no problem since everything that happens is the will of Allah so you can relax knowing that Allah loves for his children to slaughter one another.
