Firmly grasp the meaty part of the back of your neck. Use the palm of your hand and the flat surfaces of your fingers to do this (not the tips). Hold this grip for at least one minute, then slowly release. Use the same technique on the triangular shaped muscle running down from both sides of the neck to the top of the shoulders (called the trapezius). This is an acupressure technique used in massage and is very effective.

A stiff neck can come from tension, or jut a bad nights sleep.
Or should I say a good nights sleep, where one doesn't
move around a lot and they lay with their neck in one position too
long.
Slowly put your head down. Then back. Side to side. Then
get a rolling motion going. Around and around. That will help
relieve the strain.

I have been using olive oil with other essential oils in it: mainly lavender. I couldn't believe how much it helped. Also I use a hot shower on my neck and shoulders and I use thermocare air activated, one time use heating pads. I don't take the paper off the back. I can move it that way and put it on one shoulder then the other, etc. They stay hot 16 hours! If this neck problem is recurring, take some magnesium supplements, too. Calcium allows your muscles to tense and magnesium lets muscles relax.

Try to ensure you do not have too many pillows in bed when you go to sleep. If you are a driver, do you have a window open that causes a draught? You may not notice it at the time, but it does affect your neck. A pillow filled with wheat that you can place in your microwave is another help. There are plenty nowadays in the shops. If in doubt, please ask your doctor. Other causes can be from a wrongly adjusted computer screen, or simply watching television from an awkward position. If you do not have a lot of pain, try simple neck exercises to relieve tension in your neck muscles. If in any doubt, please consult a professional.

The best thing is acupuncture. This is the BEST cure. Until you can get this done I suggest Ibuprofen 400mg and paracetamol. Consult your pharmacist first before taking any of these tablets as some medical conditions like stomach ulcers can make them unsuitable for some people. You could also try rolling your head one way and then back again the other, then putting your head down and back again a few times. Hope this helps.

No cure..but there is relief if you know how to sew! Take some regular grain rice "Uncooked"...put it in a old shirt sleeve...sew the ends together...about 2 cups or more..depending on how big the sleeve is. Sew it shut...heat it in the microwave...and it feels so good on your neck and it will relax those muscles. You will feel much better. Cause the rice moves, and its warm. You can move the sleeve back and forth too. You'll love it! It should subside in a few days. If not...Get an MRI !!!!

Determine which side has the stiffness. If it is on the left side, put your right hand on top of your head and pull sideways. The vertebrae will make a cracking noise as they re-align properly. The stiffness and pain will be gone in a few minutes. If the pain and stiffness are on the right side, use the opposite hand.

Get in the shower and let the warm water pulsate on your neck. Then after that wrap a warm cloth ( as warm as you can stand it ) around your neck. If the stiff neck continues, see a doctor! Good Luck!

Put ice packs on your neck to get the blood flowing. Use them three or four times a day for about 15min. Get someone to massage your neck. If this does not work go see a Registered Massage Therapist. They will fix you in no time flat.
