They have gotten extremely bad reputations because people have mis used and abused them.

They can be agressive towards other dogs if not properly socialized by humans, but that is common in terriers of all kinds. They are unwaveringly loyal to their pack though. They will become aggresive if they feel pack members are threatened. This too can be controlled with proper training.

Some are also very attuned to the feelings of humans around them. We had a boxer/bull mix we rescued from the pound. We had only had her a week when my father-in-law died. As my wife was packing and crying while doing it, the dog (named her Libby) jumped into the suitcase and started licking her face. We had her for ten wonderful years with out ever having a problem.

It is the owner's responsibility to raise an obedient dog, not the breed. The breed gets discriminated against just because it was born in that breed! There are some wonderful dogs out there that are misjudged.
This is also true with people, and it shouldn't be, just because a person is one color that is not the same color doesn't mean they are bad either....it is how the individual acts.

They are mean dogs by nature! They will turn on you in a heart beat and not think twice about! I have seen it happen and it very scary! They are a dog that has anger issues from birth! No matter how trusting you maybe the dog is never to be trusted . Each dog is different but a Pit bull and Rottweiler are very bad dogs to have as pets! They are really only good for using as guard dogs!!

Said it a million times, and it still applies.
The breed was developed to FIGHT, and regardless of how well the individual dog is trained and socialized, that trait still lurks in it's background.

Ironically however if one does some research of court records, they will discover that the breed most often involved in dog bite cases is the Labrador Retriever,, reason being,,, there are 2-3 times more Labrador Retrievers born each year than any other breed.

I've seen "Pit Bulls" & Rottweilers that were the biggest babies...I've also seen Pomeranians that would rip your leg clean off (even though they would have to do it a little at a time!)

Some breeds get a bad reputation, but they all can be good dogs if they are given the chance.

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners.

They have their reputation. You can see "Kill" in their eyes. They are a race of dog raised to fight and kill. They should be banned as pets in areas within 20 miles of any populated area. I have dogs and find that as pets, dogs are an essential part of life and they bring serenity and love into a home, but Pits are a time bomb waiting to explode. Please use extreme caution if you have one, and especially around children. I may sound discriminatory, and maybe the media only prints storys that include pits, but as a dog owner, I do not trust Pit Bulls.

Just like with children ,it is a matter of how they are taught to behave . It is the people who treat the animals badly who should be shot . My friend has a pit bull and it is one of the nicest lap dogs you will ever find . Heard of a preacher who shot his dog because it would not hunt for deer or hogs .

irresponsible owners make dogs dangerous - it has little to do with the breed.

I visit animal control frequently to give the death row dogs a little love. You can't imagine how many pits are there because of a pending cruelty case. We need to start controlling owners, not dogs...

Probably. But I wouldn't. Yes, these dogs are taking a bad rap because of the way some people train them. Is sad.

It's all in how they are raised. I have a 180 pound rottie, and I've always been scared of those kind of dogs, but I got mine from a friend who breeds them and I knew both of her parents and their attitudes, cause they were raised as "family" and not as a vicious dog, don't get me wrong, they will protect your property and you, but as far as being aggressive, she isn't, but like any other dog, when she needs to be she can be. It's all in the owners responsibilty, of how they train their dog to be.
