I'm not quite certain what you mean about this question or if it is a statement. If you're speaking along the lines of joining the military as a major, then perhaps I can be of assistance to you. One of my close friends from an accident is a, well was a major in the US Army, he has since retired. He entered the military as a 2nd lieutenant, just like most of every other cadet graduate and worked his way up the military career ladder.
If you want to become particularly a major in the Army and don't want to go through the ranks, then perhaps a "direct commission" could be along the lines of what you're looking for. However, there's a catch to that. In order to receive a direct commission, you must have at least a Bachelor's Degree in your chosen field, right now, the US Army, Air Force, and Marines are only looking for direct commissions in the medical field. My physician gave up his practice to join the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, flight surgeon. That was back in February 2006. But I'm sure if you apply yourself to your field, you will accomplish what you are seeking.
If you want to become an officer and work your way up, then you'll need to go to an officer's academy. There is always West Point, but there are very strict requirements to getting in to that school. One of those requirements is, you can't even have a relationship in order to get in. Not to mention the academic portion of it is absolutely mind-blowing. That doesn't mean you can't get in. Just apply yourself, work very hard and you will accomplish anything!
There are other types of schools to. Some people enlist as an NCO - Non-Commissioned Officer, and work their way up to Sergeant First Class or Master Sergeant, then they have a better chance of going on to become an officer. There's also an academy for NCOs too.
Whatever happens, I'm certain you will be happy with your decision and most proud. But, beware, right now, anybody joining the military, no matter what your specialty is, whether even be culinary arts, you will be trained as a fighting soldier and released over to Iraq. The military does at this particular time try and fool its own, by having grand signing bonuses, and offer schemes to try and get people to enlist. These are really only reserved to officers. I'm not trying to make you change your mind, but it has become the norm today. Unfortunately, I know all too well about this, several teens in my family have already joined, and are regretting it by the hour. In any case, I wish you the best.
