To me it has had many names but basically it represents illusion. Your fear of truth is usually the biggest obsticle to overcoming the devil. Bill thedude is talking about this same illusion I'am talking about.

The father of the lie, so wouldn't his religion be full of lies.
myths and half truths? The great deceiver, the bible says he turns hisself into an angel of light. Yes the spirit creatures called angels are directed creations of god and they do have rank.
As Jesus is the Arch Anglel Satan means the rebellious angel.
He caused a third of the Angels to sin and come down from heaven and live with women. So they may be the reason women are treated so badly because they caused the angels to sin. Through no fault of their own. Jude 6 Gen. 6 and Rev 12:7

Christianity:
The old Serpent
The old Dragon
Satan
Beelzebub
an "angel of light"
god of this world
Devil
That is all I can think of off the top of my head. His role is very simple...rebellion against God and getting YOU to go along with it. Period.
I do not understand about ranks (?) or "they."

Well, we Catholics call him the Devil, or Lucifer, or Satan, or the deceiver who is sentenced to Hell, but he will come back and all the believers will disappear to heaven, and the nonbelievers will have to stay on earth. The Devil and Jesus will fight, Jesus winning. Then there will be 1000 years of peace- Jesus ruling over us, and then the Devil will come back and fight again. Then that fight will give the final outcome of who wins forever, or who loses forever- no more after this fight.

Lucifer. That silly red guy with the horns and tail. Man, he really gets around on Halloween! He is currently in charge of trying to make himself incognito. How can you avoid something that you feel does not exist?

satan, lucifer, the devil, beelzebul
he is the one causing troubles worldwide. a former angel of God. was fallen and tempted the first humans due to jealousy as man worship God. he also wants to be worshipped. however he was cursed for doing this and thrown down to earth by angel Gabriel and other faithful ones.
his plan now is to lead as many to follow him into condemnation. since humans understand this, he decieves pple now by the way of a church. he tries to change Gods law and destroy the human race.
well, his destiny is hell (place prepared particularly for satan and his fallen friends - demons and certainly many humans who either don't believe in Christ or who don't worship God faithfully)

The 'devil' for me is the ego - the thought system that i have that makes me think i'm this self-centered, separate thing in the universe.

Whatever name your imagination conjures up for this imaginary being will do. Giving an imaginary being a name doesn't make the imaginary being real, it just makes it easy to navigate within the delusion.
