Isn't this the point of free will and free speech? If someone is offended and misterpretted at what we say, doesn't it mean we have to be even MORE careful with our words? Because lets face it, one is supposed to be way up there in Wisdom and Knowledge, and the normal people aren't... so isnt it easier for 1 person to take heed to themselves rather than expect 1000s of people to understand the speech via his intentions... which not everyone can know, since most of us don't read minds.
Am I not given freedom to be offended if a person makes a statement about my parents and is considered sacriliegious in my culture?
Maybe its time film producers or authors get "extremely upset" when their movies/books are seen as Offensive

Kingreef, it becomes my business when the Pope or any leaders of faith speaks. Because THEY represent the highest ideals of Humanity. In the very least, when extremists speak, they don't pretend to be all Purity and Light, they make their intentions of violence crystal clear, even though I do not agree with their violence. When H.H spoke he sure wasnt speaking to Muslims when he addressed the people in Germany... but it still doesnt make his words any less offensive. If he or anyone of us expect others to give us freedom of speech, then it should be that others are given freedom of opinion to disagree with us... its not a pretty picture to be disagreed with, but fair is fair.
I DO NOT condone, the extremists' policy and ideas, but getting "extremely upset" that others are offended by our opinion, so why do they have to calmly accept our opinion, when we get "extremely upset" when others oppose what we say? If you get upset and u are Holy, what more anyone below the spiritual ladder?

I believe the Pope spoke from his heart in all innocent and is very concerned about the possibility of religious wars getting even more out of hand. Violence is not the answer. It is naive to think the Pope did not KNOW what controversy he would stir by his words. I believe this is the point of TRUTH. It causes controversy.
Freedom to be offended is just as important as freedom to speak your mind. It is the two sided coin of Freedom. In religion, you have the freedom to choose and the freedom to reject all other religions as false.
The radical Muslims do not want to hear that Jihad and violence is against God. It is in direct violation of their belief. Yes, they should be offended. But to demand an apology....who are they kidding? If they demand an apology, when will they apologize for their belief??
There is no apology coming, nor will we see one. We may see words which try to soften the blow, but If the POPE recants, he then turns from what he believes is the truth.
Don't ever worry about folks being offended when you speak the truth. Let the chips fall where they may, it is your right, nay, it is your DUTY.

They just don't understand free speach and democracy as a whole that's why they always try to fight the west because they are afraid that freedom will reveal the truth. Look at Afghanistan, some third world countries would welcome school buildings to use for the education of their young citizens so that they will have a chance in this very competitive world but them, they bomb school buildings. Why because they do not want to educate their people since intellectuals can not be duped and intellectually suppressed and that's what they are afraid of because they know that they can never imprison or kill an idea or ideology once it gets into people's minds. And they are trying to prevent it before it happens. If this happens, it will be the end of Islam because the truth will reveal irself. You can see the violence they are encouraging to stop that. Riots, chaos, threats, fear, violence, bombs and what else?
Even in the internet, the truth are coming out in the open and look at how they react on a comment. Are their reactions really a confirmation that Islam is never a religion of peace no matter how they always claim that it is? What are they expecting? That we should shut our mouths everytime a muslim passes by or a muslim is listening? Have you ever heard witnesses in Saddam's trial how they suffered when they were bomb with nerve gas? How does that compare to the pope's comment? Those witnesses are muslims, and no muslims are defending them, no muslims are rioting, no muslims are condemning the act but what you see there now is that one muslim sect trying to eradicate another rival muslim sect. It's good that there are muslims who were raised in democratic societies who have seen the balance and they are the ones who refuse to join the fray, but still we cannot totally eradicate the fact that there will always be homegrown terrorist just trying to wait for the right time because there are still leaders who encourages their youths and mold their minds that lesser jihad (Holy war) is the answer..

The point most western do not understand is that Muslims do not have the same wayof thinking. It is a different culture, different mentality. There is poverty in the Muslim countries, there is health problems, dictatorship running the lands, serious financial problem...etc Muslims could still live with that, but their religion is the most important and most precious part of their live -unlike the west- the only thing that keep these people going and tolerating all the suffering around them is their faith. The West come, occupy their lands in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan,..Continuing in threatening Syria, Sudan, Iran....thousands were killed by the occupation of Iraq, oil stolen day and night, a religious symbol insulted regularly...what is left for Muslims? No freedom, no justice, physical, verbal abuse (Abughrib, the Danish cartoon, Bush comments about Islamic Fascist, then the Pope..) it is too much, you will never understand till you live there and know how the people are thinking. The majority of ordinary Muslims are kind, peaceful, generous..If they are angry, aggressive now is because of what the west did to start.

Tenzin,
Isn't it rather for H.H The Pope to be upset that others are offended by what he said?
Ummm. I think I know what you meant to ask. I hope he has a really good day.
"Isn't this the point of free will and free speech? If someone is offended and misterpretted at what we say, doesn't it mean we have to be even MORE careful with our words?"
He didn't say anything worth getting upset over. The Muslims are babys.
"Am I not given freedom to be offended if a person makes a statement about my parents and is considered sacriliegious in my culture?"
You are excusing maniacal behavior. If I had to be judge, I'd say mind your own buisness, he wasn't talking to you. He can say whatever comes to mind, his office would have more to say about that than you ever will, unless he speaks to you, you are a third party.
You would do good to leave your mother out of this.
That's freedom of speech.
"Maybe its time film producers or authors get "extremely upset" when their movies/books are seen as Offensive"
Whatever you meant by that. They tend to be educated outside of Muslim control, thus are more refined and dignified than those Muslims that are undisciplined.

If it is jesus and christianity that is insulted, you will not say this nonesense. Ben. is really arrogant and lun. in insulting Islam and Muslims. Muslims are patient enough on other non Muslims, and only their religion is being insulted every now and then. It is due to jelousness that amid the propagande from the world evils Bush/Blair, Islam is growing faster than any other religion on the earth. Ben. do not know that this will not affect the image of Islam in the eye of its followers and those who are ready to join it.
If there are evil killers on this earth they are christians. They are inhuman in their unjust incursions, they invade, bombard, kill, assassinate, wilfully destroy Muslim countries and lying them that they are being freed from dictatorship.
Nobody can stop Islam from growing NOBODY I SAID IT AGAIN! It will continue to grow faster and faster than ever before. I AM PROUD TO BE A MUSLIM and wand to die as a muslim not a foolish christian like Ben.

Please refer to the Pope's speech. The person who wrote about muhammad was there. He wrote first hand about the atrocities committed by this little hitler. Ambitions of power but too weak to gain it in his home town he organized fellow thugs (literally) to force smaller surrounding villages to follow his religious ideas or be killed and to pay 10 percent or more to the butchers every time they came around to collect. After forcing submission by fear on the neighboring villages he gathered up enough murderous men to slaughter his entire home town, men women, children and every animal.
He also owned and mistreated black African slaves, was a out in the open pedophile and practiced bestiality.
Before you flame me do us all a favor and dispute these historical facts, I challenge you.
