Worm Wheel?
Sorry the nearest thing I can remember is a Crown Wheel and Pinion.
Machining of the wheel is gear cutting and grinding with plunge grinding applied to the pinion. Then comes the silent house where one is matched to the other and the teeth so marked with spacers to take up the back lash.
