Martial Arts and Mental Martial Arts go hand in hand because it works on your focus allowing you to absorb information better and process your surroundings.

This example can be seen with people who eat healthy vs. people who eat junk food. When you have the proper diet and nutrition, you think better and learn better.

If you fill yourself with unhealthy foods, your mind is fuzzy and you have a lower attention span. You'll miss important information if you're unfocused.

The same can be said with being aware of your surroundings when it comes to self-defense. If you're not paying attention or your sense are impaired, you won't be able to defend yourself properly.

Your physical reflexes in Martial Arts mirrors that of your Mental Reflexes when it comes to processing information. People who are slow thinkers are usually out of shape mentally. People who exercise and practice using their minds are able to defend themselves in a verbal debate.

For example, some people have commented on my Answers thinking I'm trying too hard or put in a lot of effort when it comes to writing "lengthy" responses to people. That's not really the case. It've been doing Meditation for 7 years doing heavy thought and introspection. I was also writing for 11 years so it comes easy to me.

My responses that I give are full responses equivalent to going through a whole bunch of moves. Other people who aren't used to thinking on a higher level or exercising their minds every day just give short responses because their minds usually haven't developed the Intellectual Stamina.

People who write a lot are just like Martial Arts Masters. When you first start out, your writing is terrible. However, the more you practice, the better you get. The same thing happens with you practicing Martial Arts and becoming proficient. Your reflexes are faster, you move faster, and you're able to deal with multiple threats..

This is the same way people who practice martial arts have quick reflexes where they can do all kinds of moves effortlessly. When I come up with an answer, it's because my mind's mentally agile. It doesn't take me long to formulate answers that are 5 or 6 paragraphs long.

That's because I practice daily. When I answer questions, it keeps my mind in shape and allows me to think faster in the same way that practicing physical moves for self-defense start coming naturally and where you block, punch, and kick faster.

When it comes to IQ, continuous practice of fundamental moves to the point of having them down allows you to start doing more complex moves.

The same thing goes for thought and intelligence. The more you practice basic thought and common sense, the more you are able to build an start stringing together more complex answers and replies to things people say to you.

Knowledge is power. Power is energy. When you have a focused mind, you learn how to channel that energy. In Martial Arts, you focus your power with your body. When it comes to Mental Energy, you focus it in the same way when you formulate thought and respond to others in Communication.

People who don't practice using their head for Mental Martial Arts are the equivalent of people who just throw a punch that doesn't hit hard and it's not even centered.

When it comes to giving a solid response, your entire mind should move with your argument in the same way that your entire body moves physically when you deliver a punch.

Most people who don't exercise their minds to keep it limber usually just give a weak answer. That's like only using their arm. You aren't using your torso, being in the correct stance, and moving your entire body to reinforce that punch.

People who understand Mind, Body, and Spirit see that Life tends to mimic itself on all levels to where you can apply the same pattern to other aspects of your life.

When it comes to Mental Martial Arts, you string concepts together faster. It heightens your Analytical Problem-Solving Skills to where you come up with ideas and figure out solutions faster than other people who are "mentally lazy" or don't practice using their heads to solve things.

That's why your question is a valid one when it comes to trying to develop harmony with your Mind along with your Body.

Martial arts teach strategy, philosophy, history, morals and confidence. Biology and physics are an added bonus.
Strategy comes from forms and sparring. This teaches you to plan ahead, have multiple solutions, think laterally, adapt to changing circumstances.
Philosophy is taught through the readings of the ancient classis from the cultures of the chosen style being practiced.
History is straightforward; those that do not study it are doomed to repeat the mistakes of their ancestors.
Morals are taught through the "koon" of your teacher. All martial arts should teach when to and when not to use it.
Confidence is gained through the accumulative practice and faith that develops in the concept of "self".
Bio and physics should be passed down through the teaching as well. Martial arts revolve around bio and physics.
I believe these things constitute intelligence among other factors. IQ is a concept created by upper class white America so I am not too concerned with it.

You can get a slimer look, more awareness, better reflex and concentration but it has got nothing to do with IQ which only gains from putting your brain into practise, day in and day out, not your muscles. After a session, you will be refreshed, you can take in more information quickly, concentrate well but your processing speed is still limited to your brain power aka IQ.
A good way to improve IQ is to read a lot of diverse material (information gathering and storage-harddrive), play lightening chess (mental reflex or processing speed), improve memory techiques (storage capacity-RAM) on daily basis - both pictorial and language, and have an inner awareness as to better yourself everytime you do a task (Self awareness and urge for performance). If you have the information, the processing power, an enough RAM you will always outscore ppl in doing a certain thing in more intelligent manner. And dont rely on online IQ tests.. they are indicative, not conclusive. The practical usage of your IQ is more important than just to score a high score. Allocate 1 hr a day and you will see yourself doing things more efficiently (or intelligently) in coming weeks. good luck.

it's well known that a deep connection exists between the mind and body. Intelligence isn't limited to being solely in the brain region either but is said to be contained throughout the entire body too. Martial arts cultivates and nourishes your body with oxygen through breathing concetration...it oxygenates your brain...the more oxygen your brain receives the more smarter you'll be, like me :P

Doing martial arts won't magically make you a supergenious. What it'll do is help you develop concentration, determination, a hard work ethic and confidence. With these traits you can excel in your studies.

It all about the mind, and quick thinking. It also takes time to develop that type of thinking, remember the karate kid, he wanted it now ,but it took time and training. Wait, watch, practice and it will come, be patient! You can not learn this overnight.

It can improve your awareness, but I don't believe your IQ, which is not really important.
