Yes, and ladies aren't the only ones that carry babies on their hip. My daughter was a heavy wetter when she was little and she soaked me a number of times, even when she wet it for the first time, I started to double her diaper when we went out anywhere.
Plastic pants do protect as long as the diapers don't get overly soaked. I prefer cloth diapers just because to me they are better for the baby (and myself). I just get very uncomfortable wearing disposables because thet become hot and sticky after they are on for awhile.
Enjoy your plastic pants, they can be fun.
Good luck.

I have been lucky and dont had a diaper leak on me. Plastic and a diaper will help but the best thing to do is change the diaper before it gets to full and leaks.

You need to buy good diapers like Pampers or Huggies Supreme. Cheap store brands do leak!

I found when my son's diapers would like a few times, it meant he needed bigger diapers.

Yes it will leak.
Plastic pants are pretty much good for not smearing poop around when they have an accident. They dont have anything absorbant in them. Why dont you just try it on your kid and see for yourself.
