Because many women get pregnant around the Christmas holidays (as I did with my son) and this is the time that they are due. So, it makes for the best advertising time of the year. Just my opinion.

If you look at any sort of birth statistics, you'll find September has an overwhelming amount of births versus the other months.
Think back nine months before that: Christmas, New Year's, boring winter. As some have already mentioned, it's that "giving" time of year.
Added humour to this all: A few years ago, I was reading the newspaper, and there was a story about 9 months to the day before, was the big blackout in the Northeast. As I was reading the headline, my Dad was telling me that my cousin's girlfriend went to the hospital earlier that day to have their baby.

This is a big time of year for babies.
Count it back. Nine months ago was winter, not that much to do. The days are short, the weather is bad, there is nothing on T.V..
There are valid marketing reasons for advertising this time of year.

Baby time. Just go to the streets and start asking people when their birthday is...you will find 2 in every 1 were born around this time. I guess 9 months ago is when people get the mood to get it on!!!

Its all about the marketing. They do surveys of when things are being bought more often and they prepare for it. Just like school and holidays. They are all monitored.
