some people think you should have a 3 course dinner each night , how can some of us ,especially single moms feed on children a meat, a starch and a vegetable, on a oodles of noodles salary, as a young single mother ,not working I fed my kids a lot of love and if they had room for anything else I made a big pot of beans, and I have 5 healthy adult children, with kids of there own.

Lets be honest, "ideally" a healthy meal is better. HOWEVER, in today's day and age when parents work so hard and kids are full of after school activities it is hard to make a balanced meal. You're just asking what dinner is like in OUR houses, you are not asking if you are feeding your kids the right meal. Ok - so, I am a single mom, I work all day, go to school 2 nights a week and my son has football practice fom 6-8. We don't usually eat until almost 9 and sometimes, dinner consists of a sandwich or leftovers BUT we always eat together and I think that is key. Usually, I try to cook a meal or two on Sundays so that I have food for during the week but that doesn't alwasy happen. When push comes to shove, pizza or a sandwich is good for me. And we don't always sit in the kitchen either, like our mother's taught us! LOL We have a "picnic" in the living room. I take a table cloth, throw it on the floor and we sit there with our meals, drinks, etc. and eat together. Good Luck.

Well, I am a vegetarian, and so is my husband, so we hardly have any meat in the house anymore. Frozen meals are quick and easy, especially those from Whole Foods Market. If you feel guily, though, try roasting some veggies in the oven. Or better yet, if you have a crockpot, throw some veggies and such in it in the morning, and when you get home, you'll have a nice stew waiting for you!!!
p.s. Don't feel guilty about feeding your kids chicken nuggets and fish sticks. Just make sure you don't have your kids eat 'em EVERY day!

I dont think ur a horrible mum i do the same for my kids. Me and my husband are full time business people and work 40 hours a week and have 3 childern Johnathan Apricot and Sabastian and one on the way Nadeen. Our lives are heptic and the two of us cant cook for beans i agree that we have chineese out once a week but for lunch the kids eat at school and breakfast is a quick granola bar our kids dont eat breakfast but for dinner we normally have foods they like. We live in central london so things go a mile a minute but in moderation no food can be bad. Look at my husband he still eats curly fries and fish sticks and is the sexiest thing since Hugh Grant

hello,
Well....my two just able only eat nuggets and pb&j. I make meals and they whine "i don't want it. i don't like that". What's a mom to do? So, when the complaining starts i tell them this is dinner if you're hungry eat if not time for bath and bed. I take the meal away and wait for an hour. If they ask for food i try again to get them to eat what i cooked. Most of the time they will eat what i made, if not i make the pb&j. That way at least they ate something.
Most of the time i only make sure meals that everyone will eat, so i am always in a rut for dinner. No new experiments here.
Best of luck
God bless

I don't eat or serve crap like fish sticks but if that's what you feed your kids, fine.
Mealtime at my house consists of a meat (beef, chicken, pork) or seafood on occasion, with one or two vegetables and a salad. My daughter is 2 1/2 and has been eating the same things the rest of the family eats since she was 12 months old.
Growing up I ate the crap you're serving now, because that's what poor people had to eat, that and government cheese and wild rabbit.

I babysit for a 15 1/2 month old. He eats just about anything. He eats yogurt, hot dogs, cheese, fruit, hamburger etc. We're limited what I can fix at lunch time because I watch him in the back room of the store his mother owns and there is no stove. I can heat up food in a microwave though. He doesn't seem to like green beans though. We have ordered those from a nearby restaurant. He also seems to really like spaghetti.

I don't think there's anything wrong with feeding them nuggets or fish sticks every once in a while. I'm a stay-at-home mom, and I cook healthy meals often, but I don't always feel like standing over a stove or watching a meal simmer. So I feed my kids fish sticks sometimes too. They actually prefer the fish sticks and fries over a healthy meal, as do most kids at that age. And my kids are picky eaters, so when I fix simple meals, I don't have to stand over them to make sure they eat their veggies. That's a job in itself sometimes!!

Having a family dinner is the most important thing to a child! Even if it's just soup, make sure everyone eats together. I even wait and feed my 10 month old while the rest of us are eating too. I'm not much of a cook, so I like the quickest meals to prepare.

hey, yes i feel guilty when my 1yr old boy doesnt get his serve of vegies or something healthy other than those that you suggested.. the reason i do sometimes is because my little boy is at the stage where he is starting to get very fussy or just not seem to be interested in food at all and if its something like fish fingers then at least there is something in his stomach and i feel better than him having nothing in his tummy at all. I was also brought up on them as im sure most of us were, i guess its okay but just not good to have them all the time.
