Wow! That's really cool. I especially apreciated the "mack truck pulling a garden cart" analogy.

I'll be interested to see who buys this.

Thanks for sharing.

Archive Article 1951 dentistry

The use of steel by dentists in shaping cavities in teeth prior to inserting fillings and inlays will not be displaced soon by the Airbrasive Method, as was formerly believed. By means of the Airbrasive Method, a fine spray of aluminum oxide powder which has abrasive qualities is directed on the tooth. The abrasive, working in the manner of a refined sandblast, cuts the enamel and dentine of the tooth. Limitations in it's use will have to be overcome before the technique can find universal application.

1955 Dentistry Ultrasonic Drills and Experimental Devices

Further tests are needed before ultrasonic devices for preparing dental cavities can be considered for general use. The ultrasonic machines take the noise out of the dental drill since they operate at a frequency well above the range of human hearing. Annoyance from vibration caused by the moving parts of the usual dental drill is practically eliminated, and the patients report virtually no discomfort. However, a report from the United States Dental School, Bethesda, Maryland, states that the cutting qualities, and the effect on tooth enamel and dentine were inconclusive and were characterized by erratic, unpredictable performance of the ultrasonic instrument.
