Now, since we know that God didn't approve of us finding out, why do we still cover up?

God didn't idealize our feeling of shame attached to being naked. Man sinned, man felt shame, remorse, consequence in the form of shame.

I have a different opinion of the story of Eden: We sinned and God turned around and GAVE us self-consciousness.

You have it just a little turned around. First off, Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowlege of good and evil and it has nothing to do with being naked. Their eyes were opened and they realized they were naked, it was a matter of consciousness or awareness of shame and humility. Before, there was no sin in their world. Disobedience was the problem and eating the fruit was that disobedience. But the tree was capable of giving one knowledge of right and wrong. Nakedness in public (they were not alone) is sinful. All through the OT you will see where the nakeness of the wife is meant for the husband alone, and visa versa. They became aware of ALL right and wrong, including their disobedience and were ashamed.

They were punished for believing in Satan and not believing in God. Disobedience is the same as not believing. They were then driven out of the garden, after the details of their punishment was explained, because if they then would eat of the tree of life, they would stay in a sinful state for all eternity!

Hope this helps.

Additional COMMENT to some DUDE way above me on this page:

Adam was not put OVER Eve, nor should he have stopped her. The fact is, part of the punishment for EVE eating of the fruit was all women would be put under their husband! Before EVE disobeded, men and woman were equal partners.

Adam and Eve got punished for disobeying God, for stealing something that belonged to God and for believing that God would withhold anything good from them as their loving creator. Realizing they were naked was just a side effect.

Because now we have that knowledge. Adam and Eve were like children in their innocence, but those who are no longer innocent - those who have the knowledge of good and evil - should feel shame at running around naked.

They realized that it is shameful to be naked, before Adam and Eve knew it was shameful thay couldn't be punished because they didn't know, but after they realized the truth there was no going back and if they were naked even though they knew it was shameful it would be mega shameful.

The Story of the Serpent and the Apple is much more complex than simple nudity but it became the lightning rod parable as the Western World became more civilized and demanded more modesty of people. It actually doesn't say anywhere in the bible that God wants you to cover yourself just that he doesn't want you to tempt others. We cover up because women over 21 have a lot of power in society and a ceaselessly declining power over men. Modesty is a method for them to level the playing field.

Covering up doesn't make us less naked, just less real about who we are. If we didn't believe in good and evil, we'd discover that we never left the Garden.

Fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil is a metaphor for judgment. Nothing more.

God never ate the fruit so God judges nothing.

The purpose of the metaphor is to explain that if we stop judging we would realize that we never left the garden.

The only place that we have left it is in our judgmental thoughts.

Its cold in Minnesota...being naked is to DIE FOR! lol
It would not be a pretty sight ..most of us show the imperfect flesh too much already. It would only make the lifo suction clinics rich and makeover shows dominate
