I just watched a series on DVD that was about a man who had three wives, they all lived harmoniously and the oldest wife was known as the "boss lady". It was kind of sickening and then I thought about how this was common in the Old Testament.

Because Christians must live by the New Testament, The Gospel, and the words of Christ...they are not tied to the Old Testament any longer after the death of Jesus.

monogamy and polygamy isn't limited to a few cultures. There are more than a few out there, and some countries have made polygamy illegal based on pop beliefs in in congruence with religions today. your question may be phrased 'why the inequality exists with men and women in both testaments'

Paul taught a new brand of faith that became known to Jews as Christians that was a blend of Judaism, mysticsm and gnosticism and told people his authority was from special revelation from the Jew known as Jesus who did not speak to them after leaving, to the original Jewish deciples, but only to Paul, who then stopped killing them and bounty hunting them and turned to the Gentile population and told them ritual was no longer pertinent, you could simply believe and be saved by grace not by 'works' or merit and they could continue with thier lifestyle even if it offended Jews and went against Old Testament teachings, commands and lifestyles. Most Christians will say the Old Testament is irrelevant yet pick and chose what parts to accept and what to ignore, and still allow the inequality thanks to 'god' for a man to rule a woman. Christians are supposedly not to marry but have be Jesus brides, yet they do so most are polygamous and don't realize it. Even the guy who taught it couldn't hack it.

humans are not the only species to have more than one sexual partner, some animals live this way too. In fact marraige wasn't really mentioned in the Bible, in the old testament women were traded, raped and "taken" or claimed as property as common law cohabiters or concubines, basically sometimes baby machines to make more men. The new testament women are supposedly freed then told to submit as men submit to Jesus who then submits to god, all like pack animals. People don't realize other cultures and religions are also about submission and lack of freedom or freewill.

In the edited down Bible, marraige if it was there isn't there much anymore, but it's talked about in ritual and ceremony by Jews and those who follow a similar but "heathen" Kabalistic teachings to re create the mystery of two becoming one spirit by union, as they believe God to be both male and female, we were created in that image, etc

maybe what was sickening is seeing women rule other women who are under the rule of a man

I feel we should not rule each other but live jointly, freely and do what is honorable for each other, and have respect.

many women interpret this as monogamy, men seem to be wired to spread themselves out, even if it means multiple children to support

some women have come to accept this and encourage other women to join cults where a guy rules many women and there is an alpha female who rules the bunch.

I don't prefer this myself, one is plenty!

God told Adam and Eve to "multiply and REplenish the earth.. I believe God allowed it in order to REpopulate the earth. Noe that it is overpopulated, One spouse is enough. Notice the word REplenish. The inference is that there were people on earth before Adam and Eve. What happened to them, Who knows?

Now, this line is supposed to be humorous.....If more than one mouse is mice, and more than one louse is lice, then more then one spouse must be spice.

Cultures and Societies have changed their laws, rules and mores over a period of time. what was accepted in Ancient Cultures and Societies may not be accepted in Modern Cultures and Societies. a Culture and Society must change over a period of time or they will stagnate and die.
