This is hard w/o knowing sexes or colors or whether you want people names (Sam, max) or cat names (fluffy, tiger). Or whether you want something that marks them as a set (John Mark Matthew Luke) or any four names. Jody, Boo, FurFace, Jacki. So here goes

I agree with scruffing, which seems harsh but it is actually the safest way to pick up a kitten without getting scratched or hurting him. It gets him used to being handled too. Ignore the hissing and get the scruff. Talk to him in a soft, sweet voice. I would get some turkey baby food (aka kitten crack). Put him on your lap and let him lick the babyfood off of your fingers/hand while you pet him with the other hand. This way he will create a positive association between you and the food :D Do this every day and you should see an improvement. Also, see if you can entice him to play with a wand toy or chase a laser. You can't expect too much on the second day. He's still getting used to the smells and sounds of a new place. Maybe have your friend/the previous owner come by and visit him too. You are the best for taking in a rescue cat. Kudos!

Hi,
I have (and still do) had many cats. I always give them names that either come from mythology or just a little unusual and sometimes I even make some up:
Right now: Tristan, Clarence, Shira, Julian, Mychelle, Lindsey, Musqui, Gulliver, Sebastian.
Before: Romeo, Myra, Jasmine, Maurice, Ceasar, Mouche, Terence, Sheba.
More, but cannot think of any right now.
Have fun naming them!

George, John, Paul and Ringo
Girl versions of course, if necessary, would be Georgette, Joan, Pauline and Ringo
Any combination, depending on the sex of the kitties... and they're named for the Beatles :)
OR - First four letters of the greek alphabet would be cute, no matter what their sex:
Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta
