we had the chance family living in our street

I think "slim chance" has a better chance than "fat chance". To me, "fat chance" implies no chance at all, while with "slim chance" there is still a chance, no matter how slim it might be.

Fat chance is people who want to lose weight but cant

Fat chance = negative. Fat chance you'll slim down (you won't slim down)
Slim chance = positive. There's a slim chance you'll slim down (possible for you to slim down)

In my experience, good chance, great chance and absolute certainty also equate to the same thing. It's all bollocks and the vast majority of us have 'no chance' no matter what we have been promised.
You've just got to try to laugh it off - so keep up the good work.
