>he had referred to a dialogue on Christianity and Islam between Manuel Paleologus II, the 14th century Byzantine Christian emperor, and an educated Persian.
He said: “The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war. He said, and I quote, ‘Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.” <

I found the link yesterday and now I can't seem to locate it. All I see is the hypocrite Muslims getting their undies in a wad about it. The Pope owes the Muslims nothing. This is just another BS twisting of words to heighten the Muslim Agenda and the stupid media is right there throwing fuel on the fire as usual.

He said "Dominus Ominus, Get the behind me, you evil Muslims."
No in reality he quoted an old lecture from another religious leader that basically said the Muslim faith was violent by nature and teachings and it goes against the will of God. He went on to say that they convert by the sword and that any religion that taught that was wrong. He did say 2 times that he was quoting from someone else though, but I think he meant it from himself as well. You can find a copy of the text in toto...I think one of your earlier answers gave you the site already so I will not be redundant.

Here is what the Pope actually said:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5348456.stm
He took the trouble to state that these were not his words. He quoted an emperor from many centuries ago. As usual, the Muslims with huge chips on their shoulders, chose to twist the words and quote his speech out of context. The Pope said nothing to insult them, although I wouldn't have minded if he had.
The truth is that Islam is a misguided and wicked religion whose followers are taught to hate, to maim and to kill anyone who is sensible enough not to follow Islam.

If you read the entire text of what he said, you should see that most respondents (with the exception of a couple) to this question is wrong. It was an academic lecture on the subject of rational acceptance of religion. His point was that in order for people to accept religion, they have to internalize it, rationalize it, it has to makes sense to them and they accept it. You can't force it on them by other means. His point in referencing the quote by the emperor is not significant because of what it said. His point was that it was important because it shows that this is an inter-religious dialog that has been taking place between Christians and Muslims for hundreds of years. His statements could apply equally to Catholics who have in their history resorted to violent or oppressive methods of conversion from time to time.
As to the outcomes of his statements, I find it amazing that some (not all) Muslims are offended by the implication that their religion has ties to violence. Their response? Some (not all) respond violently! If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...it's a duck. My only regret is that he apologized, but I trust that his apology was intended for those non-violent Muslims who regrettably got lumped in with Muslims who demean women and whose religious law calls for the death of converts from Islam to Christianity.

Well, once again, Catholics have "shot out their mouths" and the Pope totally belittled Muslims. He basically said that Muslims are the source of pure evil. Sure, Muslims were the ones that carried out September 11th. But, they aren't all like that. I'm not Muslim, but everybody deserves respect, and if you can't get it without being an ******, then maybe you don't deserve it at all.
