most dogs that are being used by the police, the army and security firms come from a place in melton mowbray called glendale.
The dogs there are on their last chance - these dogs - well most of them have "problems"!
They will be looking for german shepherds, ladradors and springer spaniels.
I would honestly say that the life they lead is not a good life - they get walked twice a day, thats 2 - 5 minute walks and get minimum human contact
please do not do that to your dog

There are breeders who breed dogs mainly for police work and the dogs are temperment tested before trained (many don't make the cut).
They don't just pick up some dog on the street.
Sheep dem - They do NOT rehabilitate problem dogs for police work. LOL!!!

Police departments obtain their own dogs from special breeders. They have been temperament checked as well as knowing the history of the animal and it's lineage. Every day dogs will not make the cut. It takes a special one to be a K-9.

contact your local police force & ask for the dog section, if your dog is a type the dog section uses & they are recruiting dogs at the moment , one of the dog team will arrange to visit you to see the dog, he/she will "play" with the dog to see how intelligent it is & if he/she thinks the dog would make a good police dog they will take it there & then for training. if it passes its training it stays in the police , if it fails you are expected to take it back

the dog generally has to be a puppy or very young.
they are easier to train, they are healthier and have more energy and stamina when they are young.
