The correct answer has already been given, ie, using a spotlight after dark to hunt deer. It is unsportsmanlike and most definitely illegal. In my state, Arkansas, it is illegal to even shine a light into the woods off of a roadway period. Many people used to take their family and drive around at night shining their spotlight and just looking at the deer for entertainment purposes. Even without a firearm or killing device in the vehicle, that is illegal in Arkansas as it falls under the "no harrassment of wildlife" statute in the laws. Shining a spotlight at night in known game cover can get you a hefty fine. No true sportsman would take deer by spotlighting or shooting out of a vehicle. Those that do are criminals and will be treated as such by the game wardens. In some states, if you are convicted of violating game or fishing laws, the court can, and sometimes will, confiscate EVERYTHING that was used in the commission of the offense, including your vehicle, boat, guns, gear, etc. and can impose large fines and even prison time for serious offenses.

jack lighting is when you drive around at night using a high powered spot light. When deer are caught in light they freeze or stand still. Making them a very easy target. It isn't very sportman's like and it shows that the person doing it is NOT a very good hunter. It's most likely the only way they will ever get a deer.

Jacklighting is poaching deer with a light. It is illegal, unethical and has nothing to do with hunting. No if they are simply spotting deer with a light, that CAN be legal in some areas, but generally you have to have landowner permission and no guns, bows, etc. in the vehicle.

It is illegal to hunt deer after dark or before dawn in Texas. That 'technique' is also called 'spot lighting' and it is illegal. If you don't believe me, flash a quarter to a million candle power spotlight around in the dark during hunting season in Texas and see how long the Game Warden takes to find you. LOL!

Hunting after dark? With a spotlight? It's illegal everywhere, as far as I know. Where's the sport in that? The deer don't have a chance.
Big macho guys with a flashlight. I am so not impressed.

It is using a powerful light to hunt animals at night. When they are caught in a bright light animals stand still and make an easy target. Illegal in many areas.
