My hair is very thick and wavy. I want it straight, but I don't want to blow dry it and flat iron it. What can I do?

You can't get permanently straight hair. But you can make it last longer than just one shampoo.

This will permanently do the hair on your head now..but new growth will be as usual.

You perm your hair..yes perm it. Let me explain this first.
The perming solution doesn't actually curl the hair. It breaks the hair down is all. The shape of the hair happens when the neutralizer is applied. But if you remove the rods before applying the neutralizer and rinse it out straight then straight is what you get..

First roll your hair on rods...Depends on how long your hair is as to what size you want.
Next, after perming time is over rinse your hair with rods in. this is to stop the perming action.
Next remove the rods and rinse again to get the hair straight. You could use a wide tooth comb. But your hair is very fragile at that time.

Then you apply the neutralizer to your hair...keeping it straight.
usually let it stay on for about 5 minutes. And you are good to go.

Don't wash your hair for 24 hours. That can cause the hair to revert back.

Assuming you dont have kinky hair, you can either use a mild lye relaxer or do the Japanese thermal straightening (extremely expensive). The Japanse thermal technique will not work on afro textured hair. If you live in NY, Dominican salons are very good for straightening without chemicals and they cost15-30 dollars per visit.

i purchased a permanent 'ionic' straightening kit off ebay for $80 AUD. it worked OK - but it stank the entire house out for about a week! basically, all it consisted of was perming solution. i strongly DO NOT recommend doing anything like this to yourself - my hair was virtually wrecked, so damaged, as broken, no treatment would make it look or feel nice. i am in the process of growing it out, and i am now best friends with a good quality hairstraighter (invest in a Metropolis, or a GHD you will notice the difference!).

If you are still determined, please please PLEASE get a qualified hairdresser to do it, that way, you wont have any freak accidents like it all falling off (at one stage, my hair felt like piecy chewing gum, and was just falling apart.... :-( it hurts to remember....). PLEASE listen - consult a professional! Good luck.
