There are going to be 2 major, languages. English, and Mandarin ( you can call it Chinese, but Mandarin refers to the language )
Chinese is the most spoken language as of now, and China is getting bigger. Use of English is also spreading more rapidly as it is the main medium of language for technology and science nowadays.
So I feel that both of these languages will be the language of the future.
Refering to diamondspider's answer, we do have such a language in Singapore, it's called Singlish. A rojak of English, Chinese, Malay, Tamil and various dialects.
In fact we have been warned about being misunderstood by the English speaking when using Singlish in our speech.
However, there is nothing like Singlish to give tone, emotion and further meaning to our speech when communication with other fellow Singaporeans.
Unless of course your question is more philosophical than that.

Flash forward to 2100?
I'd guess we have a new language that combines English, Chinese, and some Indian phrases. My guess is that technical terms will be largely in English, but a lot of Chinese and Indian words will creep in and create a language that nobody would understand well today.
Language is always changing, get ready for a lot more of it! (sorry France, French is going the way of the dodo ;) )

Apart from chinese it is the most widely spoken language and as there isn't a universal language it is acknowledged as the most encompassing. Alot of countries teach it as a second language and as the US's influence is global its logical to assume it will always be spoken alot.
