My 4 year old daughter came to me with this question yesterday, and I didn't have a good answer for it. How would you have answered this question if your child came to you with it?

Because it's not socially acceptable. Seriously, there is no reason at all.

It is in order to differentiate between the sexes. It is not biblical for a woman to dress in a manner that they might be confused as appearing to be a man. Likewise, it is not biblical that a man be dressed in a way that causes them to appear to others as female. If a man walks around with a beard, doesn't shave his legs, and looks like a man but is wearing a skirt or dress, then it looks gross because A) the dress does NOT flatter his figure and B) having to look at his hairy legs exposed under the dress looks gross too. I know people are used to looking at mens hairly legs, but not from under a dress. Ew! Yeah, some Scotish models can pull it off, but the regular guys look gross in their kilts.

Women wear pants and jeans a lot. I can understand this better and I do it too, but I don't cut my hair very short and I'll usually pick out a feminine top. Pants are more comfortable for me, though I know a dress or a skirt would be more flattering to my figure. Many of the women at my church NEVER wear pants. I actually feel guilty sometimes when I do, but women were also never meant to have to provide for themselves and work as a man does. Since I'm not married, don't have any children, and since I wasn't given any HUGE amounts of money from my dad, I've had to do some dirty work and it just doesn't make since to wear nice dresses to the warehouse anyway. So, I've kinda formulated my own excuses. Will I go to hell just for wearing a pair of paints from the little boys section? I don't think so, but there are still socially acceptable norms and there is a right and a wrong. It might not be right for me to pull cargo pants from the boys section, but what's more modest? A pair of women's cut jeans that only come up to mid-hip or a pair of boys cargos that will fit around my waist?

You've probably went to school or work with someone who could pass for the opposite sex. It's frustrating! I worked with someone who looked like a really cute boy and it turns out their really a girl! Who would've known at first. I definitely wouldn't want to be one of those people that others are taking bets on...whether I'm male or female! It is best, even if you don't get into any of that Christian stuff, to make it obvious. People ought to be able to at least know, when they look at you, that you are a guy or a girl. Besides, even the thought of a little boy wearing a dress gives me the heevey jeevies. And personally, I'd start wandering about his family.

There was a time (centuries ago) when women weren't allowed to wear pants, shorts and etc. but only dresses and because women didn't like that, they won the right to wear what was thought men's clothes. Boys never wanted to wear dresses so it stayed this way - girls can wear anything and boys just don't wear dresses.

because in our society it is okay for girls to dress up as boys because "there is nothing wrong with being a man." But to dress up as a woman or girl would is degrading, or so some people think. I would take your opinions and tell your daughter why it is that boys and girls dress differently. Only you know your child and how to talk to her.

Many years ago men and women wore simple dresses. As women did not like simple dresses they started to decorate their clothes by puffy sleeves, short or midi skirts, using ribbons or stones on their clothes but men prefered to wear simpler as they worked out of the house.Little by little men started to wear pants while ladies insisted on fashionable dresses and no women wore pants.
When women started to work ou of their houses dresses made them trouble so they started to wear like men.very easy ,simple pants.
Now why do men want to wear dresses? It took a long time they created easy to wear clothes. They do not want to go backwards.

I let my kids decide what they wanted to wear at around 2 with a little help. My twins asked me this one day and I just turned it around on them and said why do you think they wear dresses? Too look pretty? Do you want to look pretty or tough? He got a kick out of that and then on to something else. My son plays dress up with his sister and thinks its funny. I would just say that theres nothing written in stone that says they have to wear a certain thing they just wear what makes them comfortable and as she gets older she will discover what makes her comfortable.

Because boys don't wear dresses and girls can. I wouldn't have any trouble answering this question and I don't see where you would either.

because girls are much stonger, we don`t mind dressing like a boy, but boys have to wear pants , because they are afraid someone will make fun of them.we are the lucky ones, cause we can dress any way we want!
